Kimmy - 15 Jan 2005 03:51 GMT Here's the scoop on AI (I'm prolly gonna get in trouble for opening my mouth but KJ's got wonky white blood cell counts and a big case of hives giving her that sunkissed look and keeping her on the couch) so I'm gonna go ahead.
AI will be back but under new ownership. It about killed us to wake up and find the site gone. Didn't even have a mailbox by the time the worm was done with the site. Really depressing to think of all that work disappearing - you're gonna laugh but there's been some kind of grieving process involved in losing the site. I've been shocked, pissed, frustrated and depressed for the last month.
We thought about starting over, but to put AI back together the way it should be is just too much for either of us right now. We were in the process of getting the server straightened out and recreating bits and pieces that we could salvage from our own computers when we got an offer for the domain name. Kicked it around, made sure the gentleman who wanted the site wanted it for the right reasons and decided to make a break and get a fresh start on something new. We're gonna help where we can getting AI back together and we're starting a new site that's going to be strictly community (chat, message boards, newsletter, photo album, etc...).
Our new boards are up, hoping to go live next week.
If you see KJ over here, tell her she's suppose to be resting... Kimmy

Kimmy,
Did I understand you to say that you have sold the AI name. When you finish will your website be under a new name? Please keep us updated. I'm sorry this happened. I know you've put years of work into this and it really showed on such a super site.
I remember when Tina and I were in a chat room together (can't even remember which one it was so long ago) when she was discussing starting a website. I wonder how many years ago that was. Anyway, thanks to both of you for your endless work.

Yes, the AI domain has been sold. It's in the process of be being put back together and should be back soon. The gentleman who bought it is very nice and wanted it for all the right reasons. I told him it was a bit like selling a kid and he told me not to think of it like that, but as sending a kid off to college. He's planning to expand the site and keep it going.
We've started a new site that is going to be community based. Message Boards, chatroom, newsletter. Small and cozy this time. We'll have gimpfest information, our travel Gorilla (our board members are passing around an ornery stuffed gorilla) and current arthritis news. The new name is Rheumorweb.com
Our message boards are up (http://rheumorweb.com/InvisionBoard) and we're working on the rest of it. Arthritis Insight was alot of work - we're hoping by keeping things small we'll be able to get back to enjoying the site more.
KJ will have an official announcement when she's feeling better. We're not moving as quickly as we had hoped - I think we're getting old - can't do those all-nighters any more ;) but we'll get there.

me2@dn14.net - 15 Jan 2005 15:17 GMT >Hiya Debbie, > [quoted text clipped - 21 lines] > >Kimmy Kimmy,
Firstly, a big thanks from me here in the UK for all you, KJ and others did with AI when it was with us, and I for one am sorry to see it go, but thankful for your time and effort when it was here [if that makes sense?]
Secondly, please make sure your message board is up to date,[I'm assuming you would do anyway] as it was only the other day I was reading about how the nastys who send out virus's etc were targeting php bbs, I've copied what I read for info below:
Recently a serious exploitable issue was discovered in PHP (the scripting language in which phpBB, IPB, vB, etc. are written) versions prior to 4.3.10. The problematical functions include unserialize and realpath. phpBB (along with a great many other scripts including IPB, vB, etc.) use these two functions as a matter of course.
It has come to our attention that code has now been released which uses this exploit in PHP to obtain confidential information in phpBB. Such information includes data contained in phpBB's config.php file. We therefore recommend the following:
1) If you maintain your own server be sure to upgrade to the newest available release of PHP (both versions 4 and 5). Be aware that at this time phpBB 2.0.x has problems functioning under PHP5 without modification.
2) If you pay for hosting ensure you hosting provider has upgraded thier installation of PHP (again remember that phpBB 2.0.x and other scripts will not function under PHP5 without modification).
Please do not submit this PHP issue to our security tracker, it is beyond our control. Fixed versions of PHP do exist and as above we encourage you to ensure your system is running such a version. Equally please examine any "hacking" issues you have carefully to ensure they are not caused by this PHP problem (rather than phpBB). Remember, this is not a phpBB exploit or problem, it's a PHP issue and thus can affect any PHP script which uses the noted functions. -- Andy
Kimmy - 15 Jan 2005 15:31 GMT Andy that's exactly how we lost the site. My fault for not knowing about the security issues. (It was also the first thing I asked about when choosing a new host for the site.) Learned that lesson the hard way.
AI will be back everybody!! It'll be bigger and better than ever - we just won't be running it any more. I'll let you know as I hear more. Kimmy
me2@dn14.net - 15 Jan 2005 16:01 GMT >Andy that's exactly how we lost the site. My fault for not knowing >about the security issues. (It was also the first thing I asked about >when choosing a new host for the site.) Learned that lesson the hard >way. Kimmy,
Whatever it was, it WAS NOT your fault. It was the fault of the sick individual who was educated enough to be able to program, but then for whatever reason decided to program bad stuff. I don't know what sort of gratification he/she got from that, especially since the site he trashed was such a valuable resource for many people. My only hope is if he [god forbid] ever does get arthritis himself, he comes here and asks for advice [if we ever get to know who it was] we could tell him to try noni juice [ the most expensive kind] and give him back what he gave us!
Anyway, once again, don't blame yourself Kimmy, you've done a stirling job until the trash, and I'm sure, given time you will in the future with whatever comes from its ashes. -- Andy

It's sad to see it passing from your control, but I totally understand the decision. Building the site took so much time and energy but it least it happened slowly over time. Re-building it must have been an overwhelming prospect. And you both have lives to live.

Thanks for all the support ya'll have given us. Giving up AI was not an easy decision but one that we felt was best for us.The thought of rebuilding AI was just overwehlming.
And thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers, still waiting for my doc to call. I'll post the details in the KJ thread.

Got so I sent people to the site instead of trying to send individual pictures... Huge hugs to you both. I am sure it is actually a relief. Don Kirkman - 15 Jan 2005 23:43 GMT It seems to me I heard somewhere that Campbellbrbc wrote in article <20050114161144.14993.00000002@mb-m21.wmconnect.com>:
>Has arthritisinsight.com been changed? I can no longer bring up the website. Material that had been on the site is available at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://arthritisinsight.com/
http://web.archive.org, the Wayback Machine, is the property of an organization that archives Web pages and makes them available to searchers at no cost, a handy URL to check when a favorite site goes dead; they take snapshots of a site from time to time, so an interested user can sometimes follow the development and changes in a site or track down something that had been removed earlier.
For arthritisinsight.com, they have snapshots ranging from May 19, 2000 through February 22, 2004.
I didn't look at the individual pages, so I don't know if they have anything Kimmy and KJ could or would want to retrieve for rebuilding. Also, I don't know what kind of help, if any, the site manager could or would provide to help a site owner to rebuilt lost work.
