Dear Folks,
First if anyone sees this please e-mail me! This is my third attempt to put
this question here!
I'm getting ready for about a four day hospital stay. I've thought of packing
light reading, cards, pjs, robe, slippers, toothbrush, medicines, hairbrush.
Anything else that I should pack? Or maybe not take?
Thanks a lot,
Vickie B.

Vickie - people have been answering. Somehow, you are not seeing the
answers. Here they are:
From Janet:i f you like crossword puzzles, I've found they can make the
time pass rather
quickly... and if you have visitors who aren't great conversationalists, a
tough clue can be a starting point to a dialogue.
From kate: yes! take all of my best wishes for your speedy recovery
and good outcome.
and maybe a list a phone numbers?
From Diane: Unless you are going to be in a private room, I'd suggest
ear plugs and/or a
cd player with soothing music you can listen to while youi sleep. My last
hospital stay was so noisy it was the only way I could sleep was with
the cd
player on. Good luck to you!
from debbie m : Sounds like a good list of things. I will be thinking
of you during that
time. Someone once told me when the blood pressure cuff or leg cuffs
squeeze remember those who care about you are sending you hugs.
from Nann: tape player or walkman or whatever with earphones and
favorite music. Music
makes lots of that hospital stuff easier to tolerate. And I like those
Dell
puzzle books with lots of different kinds of puzzles so I can work on
whatever my brain can handle at the time.
May it all go well with you!
From Duckie: My hospital had installed computer monitors above the bed
and it had a touch screen. Found ASA through Google and since I already
had a yahoo or hotmail account [forget which now] I could even post.
Let me check email as well. It did keep me occupied. Only had it a
couple of days and was heavily drugged at the time so didn't do much
else but that and sleep.
I do always take puzzle magazines [think Dell]. Not too fond of
crosswords but like logic and crytoquizes. Did find my brain too fuddled
to think through those however. You might check to see if this hospital
has a method for renting the tv. Used to be you needed a few dollars to
pay off the roving tv salesman.
I would ask about those drugs. Lots of times they don't want you to
bring your own. They always do tell me to take my asthma stuff.
Leave all your jewelry at home. You may want to take an inexpensive
watch so you have an idea about the time.
Hope that helps
Duckie and I were in the same facility with computer touchscreens. Quite
nice. I always bring a book. They did tell me to bring my asthma and
allergy meds. Everything else they supplied. But they weren't willing to
give me the Neurontin at a dose I thought was more effective so I had
hubby bring mine from home. They don't like patients self medicating
because they must measure and note everything (cya purposes). But I
didn't really care. Phone numbers are important. I like bringing my own
pillow for my head (I sleep a little better).
Wishing you good luck and good care! Love, Adelle

And don't forget extra batteries for the CD player. When you fall asleep
with it on, and it's on most of the night, the batteries go fast.

Hi Vickie,
Sorry been off line a lot - we are in a wonderful winter storm week (power
has been off and on - mainly off). you probably have enough listed depending
on what you are in for. I find in the hospital sleep is the best thing and
I hardly ever use anything else. I would bring hand cream though - I find
dryness serious for me there.
No other suggestions but hope everything goes okay. - oh and bed socks for
warmth might be kind of nice.
