Wendy and I, and several of our business associates, are trying to find
accommodations in Atlanta during the Primerica convention June 15 to 18.
The hotels are all full already (even the ones we can't afford).
Is there anyone in the ASA family in the Atlanta area that might know of a
furnished house or condo we could rent for the 4 nights? We are a mature
group and I can assure that there will be no damage done. The convention is
at the Georgia Dome.
Thanks!

If you can't find something, come to the NW gimpfest in
Portland that week. <g>

Walt,
For hotel rooms head north of the city into the
perimeter/northwest/northeast area or into Gwinnet County or south to the
airport. . You may have to drive (these areas are 8-15 miles away from
the dome) but you should be able to find rooms. Don't forget that Atlanta
has a subway system that goes out to the suburbs as well. I did a search of
our Marriott products and there are dozens of area hotels with availablity,
many on or near a Marta stop. You'll have to pay a bit more for Wed nite
because its a weekday but they all drop their rates on Thursday to the
weekend rates and most of these are less than $100.00. Getting away from
Downtown will ALWAYS save you money in Atlanta as long as you avoid
Buckhead. The other suggestion is to wait it out. Primerica is one of the
conventions that fall apart. I know from selling hotel rooms in Atlanta for
4 years that downtown sellsout early and pushes people to the 'burbs. Then
in the last week of arrival everyone who can't make it will start cancelling
and all of a sudden people are selling rooms again. Atlanta is a city that
does not normally get into renting short term condo's or houses..the
Olympics were a bad experience for many people

Ditto...we did the same thing and got a BEAUTIFL room at a Victorian
style hotel.
I wish I could remember the name -- I know, not much help -- but it
was on the far north side. On the way to the hotel, you pass all
these plantation-style homes....it was awesome.
I drive in Houston, so I found driving in Atlanta to be a breeze.

Have you checked to see if there is an accomodations service of some sort in
Atlanta? Or a B&B listing service? The latter is fairly common to help get
the word out. you might find something affordable that way.
When packing for the trip, keep in mind that it will be hot, humid and fairly
calm, except some possible thunderstorms. I doubt they'll have it too chilly
in the Dome as that a/c must cost a fortune. And Atlanta is getting fairly
high on the pollution scale. And, if you'll be driving, every other road is
Peachtree something so have a good map!

Thanks Nann. They are expecting 70,000 for the convention, so every Hotel
and B&B anywhere near the Dome is already in the convention package. But I
think we'll find something.
And, with all of you that are in the area, we're going to have to set aside
a lunch or dinner to get together!

Walt,
I can't help with the hotels, but I'm only about a hour and a half from
Atlanta. Let me know if you set up a time for ASA'ers.
