I vowed I would go through all my closets and get rid of all my old
clothes.  I'm trying to rid myself  of all excess stuff.  Well 7 large
garbage bags later I am making a run to Goodwill.  7 garden size bags!
I was astonished at how many clothes I had accumulated in various
guest dressers and closets.  Phew!  anyone else have a new year
resolution they would like to brag about?  -- MZ

OMG!  I made the same resolution!

How funny!  I am working on mine this week...and having hubby and son
haul it to the van for me.

Isn't it funny that no matter how much you take out of your closets and get rid
of, they still seem to be too full!

I think it breeds.  I took out 7 bags of clothes and my closet is
still full, but not the chaos it was before.  Goodwill was very happy
to get it!

My new year's resolution is to do the laundry from last year<g.>
I've already cleaned out closets (last year), donated to Cystic Fibrosis
Assos., Diabetes Assoc., Salvation Army, etc. But there is always
something that I can't wear but can't part with. Usually something that is
just 'a little too small right now'. :>(

I have been missing off and on cause I am cleaning my
office/sewing room. I hadn't filed anything in over a
year cause the filing cabinet was too full for
starters. I have sent 3 full trash [think garden] bags
down; 2 full bags of recycle stuff; and one bag of
shredded stuff. The shredded stuff will grow cause I
stopped taking time to do that to file. Did I mention I
hate to file.
My goal is to be able to move all my 'stuff' into that
room. I have a hidden stash in a closet in my husband's
office which I need to move before he finds it. lol
Fabric is being donated. Filing is happening. Floor is
appearing. But it is still a mess. sigh...

I could not believe the mountain of stuff I pulled out.  I don't
remember buying some of the stuff, I swear it breeds. -- MZ

Sigh.... yeah, I've been trying.  But for every bag I remove, two more
appear.  My big project is to find a way to get a basement full of old
furniture and appliances to the dump.  They've been accumulating over the
years because I don't own a truck, and haven't been able to rent one.
Soon....

I was a good girl and did the closets at the end of summer.  My big
problem is that I used to have a walk in area under the eaves where just
about everything got stashed away.  You won't believe this....I had a
half-bath installed in the front section and never thought about how to
get all the "stuff" out  afterwards.  Picture a full door to the bath,
then behind that door a small door (chin high) to the storage area.
Picture me, hunched over and crawling around in there since you can't
stand up in most of the area.  There is a cedar chest full of whatever
and boxes of who knows what, along with a rack of garment bags full of
clothes from 25 years ago.  Any suggestions other than to put a lock on
the door and move?

How about hiring some youth group to help clean it out with the priviso that
they can keep anything you don't want and they do want?

Won't one of the Agencies like Salvation or Epilepsy...
who actually pick up, take them from you? Do any of the
appliances work or are we talking about the old
southern front porch with non working washers and
dryers. lol Part of my childhood.
When I closed my shop, found a local guy that hauled
stuff for a fee. He broke down, if needed and hauled
away a small truck load for me for $50.
As to larger appliances, our town has a 'white'
appliance man who is notified by the garbage truck
folks when there is an old appliance out front. This
guy takes stoves, fridges, water heaters and the
like... Don't have to pay for that other than town
taxes but you do have to get it out by the curb.
Good luck with that. I am thinking wait for spring and
see if you can get a willing boy scout troop to do the
hauling. Or maybe you can offer the furniture to the
church white elephant sale as long as they will pick up
and take away.

These would be the non-working ones.  I found an ad for a metal recycler who
will take them for free... but I have to get them up the stairs first.
Working on that, and hopefully they will be gone soon.

I know what you mean!  When we left Gainesville, we vowed not to move
anything that didn't fit or that we hadn't worn in the last 18 months
(excluding stuff that was too warm to wear often down south).  Got rid of
lots of stuff!  Donated the really nice stuff to the Junior League, the rest
went to Goodwill.

My resolution though is the boring diet one.  I'm getting back on it after
the holidays and I am still finding myself surrounded by sweets.  sigh....

Sounds like a lot of you are keeping your resolutions about cleaning out the
closets. Good for you. I am glad to see people keeping ones that they can
keep.

But don't overdo it as you are cleaning. Take your time, you have all  year
to get it done. ;-)

Duckie, it sounds like you are sticking with cleaning those files. One day
you will have them all done and then you can progress onto something else.
;-)

Love and hugs to all
