Can't sleep!!!

RoseB - 02 Jan 2005 13:26 GMT It is 5:21 AM and I still have not been to sleep. Grrr. I have been working on my paper, but now my thinking is rushing ahead of my actual writing. Worrying about whether I can be finished in time, whether I am making the paper to lengthy, and how I can include every think I need to say has scared the sleep rightout of me. That in addition to hearing noises, has made me too wound up to sleep. Double grrr.
I think it is the wind, or snow falling from the roof, or the branches of my neighbour's tree. When I look outside it looks absolutely still, not even a shadow is moving, but when I turn off the light, the noises start and the worry wheels start turning.

Skip - 02 Jan 2005 14:35 GMT Rosie, I'll trade ya the creepy noises for freezing rain smacking the windows. It looks like normal rain and normal puddles but the trees are bending from the weight of the ice and under the puddles is more ice and frozen snow. My, taking the gabage out will be most fun (not)
Hope you managed to get some sleep!

One of the advantages of being deaf. When I get up in the morning it is perfectly still around here. Until someone else gets up and I have to put in my hearing aid.
Silence IS nice sometimes.

dunno if this will help you or not, rose. years ago, i discovered that having a small tape recorder at my side helped me. whenever my mind would leap ahead or beyond the tight focus i wanted to maintain while writing a college paper or an article for a periodical, i used it.
i simply spoke all the distracting thoughts into the tape recorder as i worked. i could then let them go and not worry about them. if i thought there was some important thoughts i needed to retrieve, those were there on tape for me to return to.
distracting noises are another issue though. earplugs?<smile>

We found the "noises" issue was helped greatly when we put an air purifier in our bedroom! We did it when we lived in the dust factory, but we found it to be wonderful also as a white noise machine. Now, when it warms up and we open the windows and turn off the air purifier, we have trouble sleeping for a while, until we adjust. Same thing if we get accustomed to sleeping with a floor fan on. you need somethign you can use as a white noise machine sometimes.

Skip - 02 Jan 2005 20:34 GMT I can relate. I have a white noise machine that I can't imagine living without. Makes a big difference for me. Of course, occassionally sleeping without it takes getting used to all over again.

DeeTee and Bob Taggart - 03 Jan 2005 13:58 GMT Yep - I use a fan 24/7/365. Sometimes I have on a long-sleeved tee shirt and a quilt on the bed over me, but gotta have that fan running.

Charlie loves his fans. They make my eyes dry. And my skin and my nose, etc.
He did find something called "Nature's Tears" spray that helps me with the dry eyes.

It was just enough to keep the air moving around so it didn't get stale in the bedroom when we had the heat turned down. It also helped when we'd eaten a spicy meal that evening ;)

LOL I think that the noises I was hearing were a result of the temperature dropping. Last night was the coldest night so far this winter. I don't t hink I had any caffeine, except in the odd bit of chocolate. LOL One more day and then back to school and back to a routine. That should help.
Also was due for my remicade, but with the hols decided to wait and have it Monday since we are still off that day. Wouldn't you know it, the shipment did not come in, and given the fact that it was New Year's and a weekend, it won't be in until Tuesday. So now t he earliest I can have my infusion is Wednesday. I thiknk my body is not happy about that.
Enough whining and complaining already, and back to work!! It is a bright sunny day, so time to think of happy things. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

We've been getting lots of those noises lately as the temperature has been all over the place. Had a major January thaw Friday, then an ice storm Sat night and a small thaw yesterday afternoon! We'd just had nice snow until Friday. Now we've got an icy mess everywhere. Why couldn't it just stay cold? LOL---- what a thing for a native Floridian to say!
Glad you got some sleep though! Remember, if it happens again, there is always the Bubbles game!

RoseB - 03 Jan 2005 17:22 GMT >{{{{{{{Rose}}}}}}} Well I did sleep better last night, and since I had to get up early today, I am hopeful that I will be able to sleep tonight too. I should really go in to school today, but I am trying to squeeze every little bit of holiday time out of this time off. Plus it was -25 C this morning which has been our coldest day so far. That is not that cold by prairie standards, but for this part of the country, it is.

I have been having the odd problem here and there with hips, knees, elbows, and it clearly is time for the remicade. I am thinking Wed. after school since Tue. we are having a staff meeting.
I may have finished my first draft of my paper. I need to proof-read it, and if it doesn't look too bad, I will send it in to my Prof. My hope is to have it published and ready for peer review in the University of Calgary Winter Institute that takes place in early February. It seems as though there are several revisionary steps that must be done before it is sent in for the final time.
