My 20 month old granddaughter Aryanna, who has been waiting since
January 9th, 2004 (in the hospital since December 13th, 2004) is getting
a new heart today. What a way to usher in the new year!:)
God bless the donor family that thought of others through their grief.
What a way to usher in the new year. :(
Please keep them in your prayers for her surgery (which she is
undergoing as I write) and her aftercare and for the donor family.
Thanks.

everything will go perfectly and your little sweety will be up and
laughing at your funny faces before you know it...

what a wonderful way to end 2004 and begin 2005! i'm delighted for your
family, nell. waaay sweet news.
yes. it is difficult for donor families to push through their painful grief
to think of others at such times (butch's corneas were donated, the only
tissues that weren't ravaged by his diseases and were transplantable). but
there is also a special thing that also happens, afterwards, that makes
those families very glad they did. there is a visceral sense that part of
the goodness of their loved one continues on in the lives of others,
unrelated, unknown to them.
for instance, i truly loved the way butch saw me and saw the rest of the
world. words cannot ever adequately describe the way he did. ironic when i
think of it now, i always used to bless butch's beautiful eyes aloud (no
matter to me where we were or who overheard) during the course of our
marriage, whenever i recognized the sweet way he saw things. i know the two
people who received his corneas may or may not see the world and people they
love the way butch did, but there is that deeply moving hope that it somehow
continues to bless others in that special, nameless way. and in that sense,
there is a reciprocity of healing and of the priviledge of giving and
receiving.
please, do let us know how it goes for aryanna. may your family and the
donor family be richly blest.

How wonderful Nell. It's amazing what can be done now if a donor is
available. Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Happy New Year.
