Howdy!

I had a great Christmas!  My hubby got me exactly what I wanted!  I
had all my kiddos with me and my parents too.  I am almost finished
setting up my glass studio...I will have to take some pics soon and
post them on the net!

then......

I went to my RD yesterday.  He took my Bextra away :(

He told me if I still wanted Bextra I had to go to my cardiologist and
get a full work-up and allow the Cardio to prescribe the Bextra.  He
said he would rather up my MTX than add Bextra back.  I also now take
pred at a low dose (moon face here I come!)

Well, this just kinda sucks.  Today I am stiffer than a statue.
Joints are swelling up nicely too.  I'm cannot take NSAID's....so I'm
just basically whining.

I probably just need to let things settle down a little, let the MTX
kick in, and let the pred kick in too.  Ok, I'm hobbling back to my
recliner.

(((((((((janet))))))))  i remember how much bextra helped me and  i miss it.
i can imagine how much you must miss it.   but, i was the one who gave it
up, before my rd confirmed it was a good idea.  (i had that heart attack
scare back in feb. and wasn't going to push my luck with bextra.)  mobic
seems to help a little, after i was permitted to double the dose, but not as
well as bextra helped.

maybe once your rd has tweaked the doses of your meds enough, until he
figures out what helps you most, things will settle down for you, janet.  at
least, i sure hope that will be true for you.

glad you had a good christmas!  what glass studio?  stained glass studio or
blown glass?  i'd love to see those pictures!

i've always wanted to learn how to do stained glass.  went to sign up for a
fall class this year, but the teacher's wife had recently passed away.
understandably, those were cancelled.

My glass studio is for making glass beads...called Lampworking.  I use
Moretti, Maurno and Lauscha rod glass...and all types of stained glass
to make my beads.  The electrician installed my circuit to run my kiln
this afternoon, but I was a tad too stiff to start annealing my beads.

I will get to work on those pics....

how wonderful!  We used to know some folks who made their own glass beads
back when we did the art show circuit in Florida.  Beautiful stuff.  I spent
a lot of time drooling over their stuff, but never could bring myself to
spend the $$$ for the ones I really wanted to hang on me.  (I have expensive
tastes in some things! )

I look forward to seeing the pictures!

this sounds like beautiful beads.  can't wait to see the pix of your studio.
hope you include a picture or two of the beads themselves or what you create
from them.  would love to see that, too.

Low dose prednisone shouldn't cause moon face - how low is he talking Janet.
We increased my prednisone and took away celebrex.  Seemed safer in my case
and I feel better about it.

That said it wasn't working anyhow so.... come to think about it enbrel
isn't working that well lately either or else I am just going through flare
from hell again.  Getting really sick of it.  Another sinus infection too so
will go off enbrel and back on antibiotics probably again - go to the doctor
tomorrow.

Just get so sick of it.  Anyhow talked to the RD last week and it looks like
maybe another drug trial in April. If it works like the last one well it
might be worth getting my hopes up again.  This is another new biologic
so....

At least there are more choices out there than there were.

Hang in there and don't panic over the moon face.  If the prednisone is kept
low dose and you keep faithfully taking the vitamin d and calcium you
shouldn't be too bad (depending on what he calls low dose).

Hugs,
Kelly

Well, it helps when you aren't starting out with a nice little pudgy
face...LOL.  I tend to be quite sensitive to pred, so I can take lower
doses than most folks.  I am on 7.5 now...anything over 20mg has me
bouncing off the wall in a nice little mania (it's quite funny to
watch!)

Once when my dose was 30mg due to plueral effusions (sp)...my hubby
brought me to a book store and I was jumping out of my skin...I
started touching everything in the store...opening all the
books...reading all the titles out loud.  He nearly had to hog-tie me
to get me out of the store.  Then on the way home...I would try to
guess when each stop light would change..."red, red, red,
GREEN!!!!...no, red, red, now GREEN!".  I'm surprised he didn't leave
me on a street corner.

He called my RD ASAP.....we went back down to 20mg!

I completely understand your feeling of "being sick of it".  We just
have to hang in there -- together!

{{{{{{{Kelly}}}}}}}  We all manage somehow! :)

Okay Janet - 7.5 is what I have been on forever!  It is a high low dose.  We
will both have slightly pudgy faces. I can't take anything over that without
being hyper too. At 20 mg they give me valium to go with it.

Hange in there - hopefully the rise in mtx will help.

You just reminded me of all the times I thought dad
was performing magic by "blowing" the red light out
and making the green light would come on.  <g>

That's a tough one Janet. I do hope you get to feeling much better
soon. That really sucks about the Bextra though. That's one thing I've
never even tried but have heard good things about it. {{{{{Janet}}}}}
Very gentle hug for you.

Actually I am feeling a little better today.  I am even going to take
my son to get his ~DRIVER'S LICENSE~....

Where's my Jack Daniels?

It won't be like the "old" Jack Daniels you may
be used to.  The alcohol content was lowered
in 2004, earning the company a "distinction
of the year" award.

As one editorial remarked, "Jack Daniels
must be turning over in his grave,"

The HUMANITY!  Lowered?

Might as well drink a Near Beer.

(((((((Janet))))))))  Maybe he could give you a pain med to carry you through
this time or let you take a higher dose of pred for a couple of days with a
quick taper back to your low dose, just to kickstart the pred effects some.

It sucks that the trade-offs have become so potentially lethal for some
folks.  I feel more and more blessed that I can take most NSAIDs.  May be
time for another DMARD in your basket, too.

Thanks goodness you had a nice Christmas before this big disappointment!

Thanks Nann,
I feeling better today...the pred kicked in about 10 pm last night and
I got a decent nights sleep!

I took the max of Ultracet and that helped too.  Thanks for the
hugs...I really needed them yesterday.

Dang!

My PCP says I can stay on it. She said that what the news stories say is
exaggerated and the studies aren't so negative. Plus I have GERD and
erosions...the risks of average NSAID's are too high for me.

But then again, it could be my age. I'm 47 and the study subjects had 20
yrs.seniority on  me.

Sorry your RD is dropping Bextra...wish you had my PCP instead. I did
fine and dandy on MTX, it wuz the Bitch in a Bottle ( Pred.) I couldn't do.
