just found this in my inbox moments ago.  i'm a bit fuzzy-headed this
morning, but i think melinda wants me to post the entire note.   i'm not
connecting with the meaning of "MSF/DWB" this morning.  hopefully, most of
you can and do.

i think, along with her assessment that it would be good for southeast asian
peoples and MSF  to have our prayers, melinda would benefit from our focused
good vibes and special thoughts on her behalf, too.  --- kate

Hi Kate,
I am on my way to SF to fly by private jet (thank God) to NYC where I will
then go on another private jet flight to Paris to meet up with MSF/DWB.
Then it is onto north Sumatra with the support team-I will either stay in
France and coordinate or more on with the team.  I will be not available at
all and we are not going to Vancouver obviously.  The kids will be checking
my email.

Can you post on ASA for me and let people know that I can't respond to
individual emails and I don't have the time to email everyone.  It would
also be good to have prayers for people in the Southeast Asian region and
for all the MSF (this is definitely a European staging and not the us DWB
group, hence MSF) people who will be there-wish us all luck.

I'll be back by mid January

Wow.  This is dreadful news.  I've been off in my own world today and had no
idea.

Have a candle lit and prayers being said for all those affected.

My prayers are with her, all the rescue people heading over there, and
all those affected. The devastation is unbelievable. I can't even
imagine being in a situation like that. They said on the news this
morning that millions are homeless and that they don't have enough
coffins to bury the dead. Relatives are having a hard time trying to
find out information as well. I was reading a couple of eyewitness
accounts from survivors, and those who survived were incredibly lucky.
One man was on vacation with his wife and described sitting on the beach
and watching the wall of water coming at them. He said they ran until
they felt the water lift them, and then he said he just had to pray
since he was sure he was never going to make it. Luckily he and his wife
managed to cling to a first floor window as the water was pushing them
near a building and they got into a building and they are safe. Just
reading his account gave me shivers.

I'm going to light a candle now.

how melinda does this with arthritis and other serious problems is beyond me.
and how anyone could criticize the beliefs of a woman as generous,
self-sacrificing, and spirit-filled as this is even harder to phathom.

I would love the slime that emailed her to put his/her
life on the line to help his fellow human beings as
Melinda does each time she steps on a plane now. Her
life is less important than her work, and that is what
makes her so very special. What she has seen with her
eyes of devastation and destruction -- both man-made
and not is mind boggling. That she is still spiritual
at all in spite of it all is a miracle.
Can I be like her when I grow up.

***i agree, so, me tooooo.   personally, i have a lot more growing up to do,
than you, before i can be anywhere like her.<smile>  she is selflessly
amazing and heroic, so very heart-centered.  actually, there is quite an
impressive list of quiet, unassuming heroes and heroines in/from the ranks
of asa, in my estimation.  and i hold them all in high esteem.

there were two people who criticized melinda and were abusive in private
emails to her.   it is possible, based upon conjecture, that at least one of
the two may or may not have an organic based disorder, of some kind, that
may or may not contribute to this kind of repeated behavior.  nevertheless,
both individuals way-waaaay stepped over the line.

I watched the news footage tonight, but even without seeing the extent
of the tsunami damage, Melinda is my hero.
I am so sorry for whatever happened, and hope that whoever was
involved in this will find it in their hearts to apologize.

I am concerned for all the people in the region that was hit. I also
have some concerns about friends or the children of friends that are
now in Thailand.  The best man of my nephew (who was killed in the car
accident) has been living and teaching in Thailand for about five
years now. I have not heard if he is safe. But looking at the
devastation it is clear to see that it was the poorest citizens in all
the affected countries that suffered the severest carnage.

To say that Melinda is my hero is understating. She has not been
feeling well herself and now she is working for disaster relief
knowing full well that it will set her back physically and mentally
and she will pay the price when she returns.

The very least we can do is continue to say prayers and hope for the
best outcome for all involved. If we are able to help financially
through the Red Cross or other organizations it would also be a  big
help.

I should clarify this. I was referring to who sent Melinda the emails
criticizing her beliefs.

thoughts and prayers going out for them, also, rose.  let us know if and
when you hear anything about your friends' children, please?

OK I will.
One of my best friend's sister and her husband just left for Thailand
yesterday. They had planned a holiday, but did not cancel in case they
can help out.

It's a small world really.

yes.  A person's true values show in their actions, and I don't think values
get any better than this.

w0w.  how dreadfully awesome is the power of nature.  the death toll has
risen to above 11, 000 (so far, and thousands more are missing, including an
entire fishing fleet at sea and entire villages) across asia because of
tsunamis resulting from the earthquake off indonesia.  horrific losses of
life.

Thanks Kate. Prayers for our Melinda too. I worry most
especially about her and blood clots in her leg.
I heard tonight that Sumatra [or was it Sri Lanka] had
actually been moved by the Tsunami -- the whole island
moved.  Not much left there and no water available for
drink. One crisis followed by another. Death toll
reaching 23,000.
Prayers for the living now.

I just knew, deep down, that when I got back from my christmas stay with

How Melinda does what she does amazes me - she is just amazing.

Kate, thank you for letting us know about this. I have been praying and
sending good thoughts to them all.

I wish I could be like Melinda, even just an eighth like her. I don't know
how she does it. I agree with all that Duckie and Kate have said about her.
She is one heck of a woman. ;-)

I didn't know about the clots in her leg. I am really worried about her too.
