Ashley - 23 Dec 2004 06:47 GMT It was a colder day today than it has been lately, maybe about 70. It's been in the low 80's lately, pretty warm for this time of year. Luckily it's going to be 67 on Christmas and drop to the 50s next week. Someday I want to wake up Christmas morning with snow outside. Maybe when I go to Boston for graduate school.

Skip - 23 Dec 2004 23:05 GMT It's minus something degrees, windy and the storm dropped 25cm (inches and inches) of snow last night. Had to dig my car out this morning and skid my way to the main road. Took me an extra half hour to get to work ths morning! Going home was easier. the snowstorm has turned into a nice gentle snowfall, the snowplows are finally getting the roads cleared and a nice gentleman helped me push my car out of a drift.
It's a hot chocolate evening. Later, after I come back in from moving the car so the plow can clear the drive, it's going to be a hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps evening!

And it stayed really pretty for a while, being on a holiday. The problem with Boston snow is so much of it gets dirty so quickly. But some areas stay pretty. Our first year it didn't snow until just about Christmas Day, but we were in Florida for break by then :)
So where are you aiming for graduate school? Huh, huh? I'm familiar with the larger campuses in town now.

We have no snow and in fact the grass is still green. We have had temps in the 50s recently. I am still wearing my sandals, which is a good thing since my boots do not have the lift on them. There is a chance of snow for Sunday.

That's what I always did in such circumstances. Mike knew the gray-ness was getting to me whenever all the lights came on. I'm usually enough of an environmentalist to turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.
Since we started me on an anti-depressant for fibro sleep problems though, all those inklings of SAD are gone. I gotta admit it's been nice, not having to battle the droops whenever it clouds up (which happens A LOT in Michigan, being stuck up here among the big lakes).

Mike knew the gray-ness was getting to me [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > to battle the droops whenever it clouds up (which happens A LOT in Michigan, > being stuck up here among the big lakes). Thanks, Nann. I do have lights on. The depression I get this time of the year is a combination of the greyness of the weather, and being lonely. I have come to the conclusion that once you no longer have any family, holidays don't exist. I was half hoping that my workplace would be open on Christmas as at least it would have given me something to do besides sit in an apartment alone. But we were closed, so I spent the day watching TV, and surfing the web. No one called to see if I was dead or alive, or even just to say Merry Christmas. I really tried to get into it this year, but I just can't anymore. So I'll just wait out this weekend and then it will all be over, and life will go back to normal.
Hugs, Carole

[quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > Hugs, > Carole I'm sorry you had to be alone on Christmas Day and the holidays overall. Do you have any friends in the area who might welcome an addition to their family next year? About 25 years ago my family began inviting friends who were alone for Christmas over to our house. We found that we enjoyed having them over as much as they enjoyed having some people to be with.
I suspect more people would be happy to do the same thing, but they just don't think of it. My sister gets the credit for thinking of it originally, the year we had three divorced friends who'd be alone on Christmas. Now some of them drop by even after visiting family earlier in the day! It's been great for all of us.

melodymom - 28 Dec 2004 18:19 GMT Hang in there, Carole, and take Nann's advice about turning on all the lights. Just a short time ago I was thinking, "Ah, a bit of sunshine. Maybe the winter won't feel so long!" Of course, that was Thanksgiving weekend when I went to Newport with my daughter. lol I'm sure the sun's been out since, hasn't it?
Remember the year we had 90 consecutive days with measurable precipitation? THAT was a depressing winter for sure.

My neice is coming from Saskatcehwan to BC for Christmas. They were going to leave at 6 am this morning, but the temp was -40 so were afraid to start out. They waited until 8 and by then it had warmed up a bit. They will think it is positively balmy when they come here.

Edmonton is supposed to reach a balmy 7C today, -1 Christmas day... then down to -26 for a high on boxing day (just for all those people who line up outside to catch the sales). Yesterday morning was the strangest day I'd seen... it was -13, yet in addition to the snow we had freezing rain. Weird.
