Know Your Family Tree, Save Your Life
Some of the biggest health advances are in genetics --
and finding the best ways to help patients may lie in
knowing their family health histories.
Top killers like stroke, diabeties and cancer are produced
by genetic and non-genetic factors, so having family with
those diseases can heighten your risk.
The Surgeon General wants Americans to compile a family
health history and is even offering a free computer program
to help guide you along.

thanks, I already know it fairly well and it's rather depressing. The
amazing part is how most of the family lived so long even with their health
problems and in the days of less advanced medicine. Not sure if that's good
or not, not on days when I'm flaring as much as I am today........

I got a book out of the library called "Genealogy Online" by Elizabeth
Powell Crowe and it has that site listed along with the computer
program. I just dl'd it today. Almost left out my cousin Carolyn. I'm
going to get in touch with my cousins so I can find out more.

Thanks for that. Our family has been traced back many generations, and we
have everything listed from employment to hobbies... but no medical info.
Seems like it should have been a given.
