I love my kids. We found out today that the fire department in Watsonville,
the area in our county where most of the agricultural workers live, had a roof
leak after a big storm last night. All their toys for tots got ruined. I put
a call out to all of my kids and the AFE (homeschool) kids for toys. Curtis
was the first to respond. His birthday is on the 18th and Susan and I spoil
him a little too much. He suggested we give his birthday toys to the fire
department. He was also going to collect his best things to take down to
watsonville.
Then I talked to Jamie who has her winter formal on Friday. This is her first
winter formal and she is being well spoiled also. Sue Wong dress-rhinestone
shoes-the works. I was taking her to her pedicure when she decided she could
have a friend do her pedicure and take back her dress and get the cheaper one
and we could donate the money to toys for tots.
Then we get a cell phone call from Sarah, who as most of you know, is a little
organizer. She had started a phone tree and had raised 120.00 in an hour and a
pledge for tons of toys we have to pick up. She is doing something else but
won't tell me what until she knows if it will work.
I had called megan when I first heard about the water damaged toys for tots.
She of course was going to chip in financially but I guess she explained things
about little kids not getting toys to Logan. So we just got my nightly call
from Logan in which he usually sings to me. Tonight though, he told me it was
okay for Santa to give his toys to the "poor children" I don't know how much
he understands about poor children, but he does understand about his toys.
I am always amazed at how empathetic and generous kids can be. These kids
never let me down. Kids want more than anything to be given the opportunity to
be genrerous. this will be the best gift I will receive this year and it makes
my heart glad that I get to spend my time with these kids.
By the way, jamie keeps the dress, but she did give up the pedicure <g>
So once again, it starts-the little miracles and small acts of kindness and
generosity.

What amazing kids. I'm sitting here sniffling and smiling, because it shows
that there are still kids out there who know what the true spirit of giving
is.

OH, Melinda, that is just way tooo sweet! Brings a tear to my eyes and
a lump to my throat. You have modeled well to those kids and they have
soaked up every ounce of it. Most kids just need someone to believe in
them and to guide them a bit along the way! What an incredibly
precious gift to all involved!!! Thanks so much for sharing that with
us!

from what you've told us about these kids before and knowing who's been
raising them, I'm not at all surprised. :) Such wonderful people are truly
a blessing for the whole world.
