Anyone heard of this, had it or know if and how it can be fixed, please tell
me. I've had back pain whenever I am standing or walking for any length of
time (3 min.) for years but thought it was my RA but now my doctor thinks it
is a spinal compression in the mid back. I am to go for xrays of the whole
spine this week. I'm hoping this can be fixed.

Suzanne,

Is this doctor a neurologist?  Get him or the doctor to order an MRI. There
is a chance it might be something other than compression and an MRI is the
BEST test to view those bones.  Been there done that.

Please let  me know what you find out.

If an MRI is possible, please ask your doc about it.  I had x-rays and
they said very little.  The MRI showed moderate arthritis throughout
my whole spine.

Just a thought :)

The only thing I can relate this to is a compression fracture of the spine
which is horribly painful. It's caused by Osteoperosis. I have had 4 of them
since April. There is a surgery which is considered high risk by anyone in
my city (Orlando) and I just had to wait out the pain which took about 4
months. It's much better now but I still have to be careful and am taking
Forteo for the Osteo. Not sure if this is what they were talking about or
not but I can't think of anything else. Good luck with your xrays.

While I was in the waiting room of Mary's ob/gyn last
week, I read an article about a new spinal surgery
technique that enters from the patient's side rather
than the back.

The process is 15 minutes vs. 3 or 4 hours, and the
patient is home in 1 or 2 days vs. weeks.

Now I can't remember the name of the magazine.

This is a treatment for compression fractures.  They are doing them in Ohio
and you are awake when it is done.  From what I have read, it is really
very helpful.  Some nun had it done in Toledo and did very well.  Don't ask
me which nun but hey if she did it, it must be right HUH?? heheh
sorry just alittle humor
But I did hear it is a good thing

OK I'm good and scared now! <bg> I had a total of 14 xrays taken. I
already take Didrocal to prevent osteoporosis. I've had this pain since
in my 30's but lately it is getting worse. I think it may be making me
try to run for the bathroom whenever I have to pee. Hopefully I will
have some answers soon.
I like your humour, Janers! Thanks for the sites.

I will. It's nice to finally get it looked into. Maybe  picking up my 2
grandchildren made it worse.
I just want it fixed.

I think grandchildren should come with a warning label. ;-)

I have talked to about 4 different people in the last couple of days and
they are all saying they think they are suffering, shoulder, back problems
because of lifting their grandchildren.

But what you going to do, they are so cute and cuddly.

Susanne, please be as careful as you can. I hope you get it fixed so that
you can function without alot of pain. I feel for you. I know it is hard.

I haven't had the chance to find the greatness of having grandchildren yet,
but I do think of it alot and wonder if I would be able to hold a baby ever
again.

I can feel your frustration here, and I hope that you get an answer and a
fix for it so that you can do what you want to do again.
