called my rd and she said, "get thee to a neurologist" as soon as i can.
she suggested one that was in the same building, but only because he's part
of the st. francis health system and the only neurologist that
is---convenient, in other words.  but she said, check around.  i'm thinking
maybe i should go outside the system and see who else i can find?

good job on starting the process!  now, check around with any folks you know
with back problems and see if they have a neurologist they like.  And check
with your other docs to see if there's one they've heard good reports of.
You can do this and you will feel so much better with treatment!

thanks, sweetie.  so far, my pcp and rd both named the same neurologist, but
both of them are in the same health care system, too.  still working on it.

There is an advantage to having several doctors associated with the same
system, they can usually share files and info a lot easier.

Most of the doctors my father and I go to are associated with the same
hospital. When dad was in the hospital they (or their partners) made
rounds there and were able to check up on him. It helps keep all of my
doctors "on the same page", and means that I don't have any trouble
making sure that all of our doctors know which meds we are taking and how
and what we are being treated for and with.

The only reason I'd go to a doctor associated elsewhere is if I don't
like or trust the ones our PCP suggests, and then I'd discuss it with
him.

uhhh . . . i'm glad that works for you and your father, norman.  however, my
rd and pcp are even in the same building, as well as belong to the same
health care system.   the blood and xray lab are in the same building as
both of them, too.  guess what?  i still have to make sure my doctors each
get copies of what's going on, with labs, xrays and each other.

it might not be a bad thing to try out this dr. wendt/neurologist in the
same system/building, if he's a good diagnostician (though i'm not sure how
i'd find that out).  but if i have to undergo surgery, i don't think being
arbitrary about which surgeon does it is a good idea.  been there, done that
at kaiser in my twenties----and it was definitely NOT a good idea.

((((((((Kate)))))))))  I just read that last post.  I am sorry that
you're going through this.  I'm so glad that you called your RD.  You
need to find some answers as to what is causing all of this agony.
You are in my thoughts and prayers Kate!!
Hugs,
Carol

thank you, hon.  i whine a lot about it on asa, but at home i just kind of
accept what's been happening, out of habit, i think.   i hope i'm really not
a complainer, except on here cuz it's kinda acceptable.LOL  but, i think i'm
getting whinier on asa, lately.

i'm gonna try to get some answers.  i didn't know anybody here who goes to a
neurologist, until i just now called my chiropracter.

she said she sent her son to a neurologist who she believes is a great
diagnostician, not too far from here, in another town.  offhand, she even
said this neurologist is one of the few in this area to have ever diagnosed
post polio syndrome.  w0w.   i didn't mention that possibility.

thing is, she said he's so booked it might be weeks even months out for an
appointment date.  (but then, i guess it would be weeks or months out if i
didn't have an appmt. at all.LOL)   she did say that he hasn't much of a
pleasant bedside manner with patients.   is brusk, all business and a tad
absorbed by the body puzzle in front of him, but she said she'd rather have
his brains than his smile in situations like mine.LOL  i trust her, so i
think i'll give his office a call for an appmt.

sounds great!

well, call and see what they say.  And you can always ask about the infamous
cancellation list.  Do what you can to describe your symptoms (hopefully the
gatekeepers will let you!).  Your current situation sounds to me like one
that just might get a priority star.

you can sacrifice bedside manner for true competence, but it is nice to be
warned ahead of time!
