doe - 24 Nov 2004 07:26 GMT By impounding iron, FHC foils cell suicide, fuels inflammation 12 Nov 2004 A research team based at the University of Chicago may have found a way to manipulate cell suicide, also known as programmed cell death, a normal process that regulates cell number but that goes awry in chronic inflammatory disorders, cancer and other diseases.
In the 12 Nov. 2004 issue of the journal Cell, the scientists show that a key step in the process of preventing cell suicide is the induction of ferritin heavy chain (FHC), a protein that collects and hoards iron. By sequestering iron -- which cells with suicidal tendencies need to make the harmful substances that induce death -- FHC prevents cellular suicide.

I think Tommy has developed a little crush on me lately. Based on how excited he seems to get when I question his obsession with "PUSSSY", and that he has never become THAT excited when women challenge him, I figured that as he knows I'm Bi, he might just be getting a little frustrated being so far away from lil' ol' moi.
D'you think I've pulled here? ;)

Jim and I are having a good laugh at your answer. :-) Makes me wonder if we shouldn't get some kind of Tommy fan-club together. We could adopt him as the most predictable troll on Usenet and have competitions to see who can get him to splutter the longest of a single thread etc. Or maybe I'll get that old can of paint out and that bit of wood I've been saving, paint a coat on it, and sit and watch it dry. Could be more rewarding... ;\
Hmmm... Thats a thought... Does Tommy need and undercoat to prevent all that rust he's so bothered about? ;)
Hmmm... And another thought... Maybe he's really got arthritis but he hasn't figured out that all those creaks don't really mean he's a robot? 80

Trading slaps with a sick mind is not sport in my world and that may be signs of a mind that cries out for its own need for help. Whatever..... please let Tommy go in this newsgroup. We have learned to tolerate and ignore and even Block his posts. Do you want to join him?

Mike, I realize that some consider sparing with trolls a sport. However this is a support group and many of us find it upsetting to watch and have said so. Our easiest defense is to block the source. When an otherwise valued member of the group wants to play anyway, it is of course not something we can prevent. We have to either put up with it or block them both. I'm quite sure you understand.

As I'm not too sure how others block stuff, I'm a tad confused about how a post from I-Ron.bot gets filtered but a follow-up doesn't.
Mind you, its been a long time since I used Windows and I have no idea how any M$-based filtering methods might actually work/not work. ;\
As you have highlighted something I am not familiar with, and I appear to have leaked into other people's choice mechanisms with regard to this particular "entertainment", I'll default to taking your advice here.
If anyone has any hints on how to slide behind other people's filters, say including a keywork in a subject line etc. to make SURE one's posts/FUs are filtered out, then I'd welcome the info. Always worth knowing how to avoid being where ya shouldn't huh? ;)

Always worth knowing how to avoid being > where ya shouldn't huh? ;) For Outlook Express, select:
TOOLS > Message Rules > News > From line (or) > Subject line (or) > From specific account > Delete it (or) > Mark it as read
You can filter a name using the "From line", or filter a thread using a word or two in the "Subject line", or filter an IP account.

Does this mean that as long as a subject line is not changed, the whole (potential) thread gets filtered?
Seems to be. So the next question is, is there a keyword that can be included in a subject line on this NG that would ensure that a post was filtered by those who wish to filter?
A suggestion might be, considering Tommy's habits, to include the "I .. am .. a" sequence as this appears to have served him well for years.
As you may have guessed, I don't use OE or even Windows. :)

firechief - 02 Dec 2004 02:47 GMT > A suggestion might be, considering Tommy's habits, to > include the "I .. am .. a" sequence as this appears to have > served him well for years. "Jesus was a vegetarian" would filter Tommy. But if you wanted to filter a user rather than a thread, in Outlook Express select:
MESSAGE > Block Sender
> As you may have guessed, I don't use OE or even Windows. :) That's why I was surprised when you asked a MicroShaft question.

I have no problem filtering if/when I need/want to. What I was looking for was a method of ensuring that IF (and given the advice I've been offerd its not that likely) I needed to follow up a post that may be something others may have blocked, I have a clue how to avoid my followup leaking past people's filters. THIS is what I needed the advice on. :\
Actually, accepting that Tom's "vegetarian" stuff is likely to be a filter key, I'll simply not snip it. the added benefit of this would be to re-enforce any idea I may have to offer regarding Tom's sanity. ;)
I'll try to avoid this of course. 8\
Thanks anyway. :)

Harvey R. Stone - 03 Dec 2004 05:08 GMT I want you to count how many times you used the word "I" in your post. Thats what its all about isn't Mike. Lets be honest here. Nobody in this newsgroup gives a dam about Tom or what he says and he has earned it. Harv

Climb down Harv, you're on the wrong case. I'm not your enemy, not am I responsible for your troubles. ASA has an established alternative way of dealing with Tom and others like him, that much has been communicated to me already. While respecting that on this NG, there is a limit to just how much what I have to say can be "guided" by others wishes. Sometimes one just has to accept that there might just be another viewpoint, as I have done, and maybe you should reconsider that here.
Respect Harv. And peace? :)
P.S. I KNOW how damn irritating I can be without even trying, but then again, thats not my problem, as MY irritation at the deluge of posts I could get wound up about IS. Offence is like drink, only effective when taken.

I wouldn't bother unfiltering him though, nothing new or original to read, apart from his attempts to avoid admitting his apparent facination with li'l 'ol moi that is. ;)
