ok.  many of us have visible clues, not strictly for the informational
purposes of others, that we are not olympian athletes.  many of us walk and
move as though we were inventing new dance/shuffle steps for 4/4 tempos.
some of us employ flashy wheeled-chrome, others incorporate the purring
drone of more high tech advances, while still others opt for the more
atheletic approach to mobility with our sticks of wood or metal, sans a ball
or puck.   let's face it, we still tend to be more turtle than hare when it
comes to doing many things.

adaptively, some of us consider dust bunnies the perfect house pets, in that
they require little expense and care from us.  creatively, a lot of us see
cobwebs as trendy decorative accents that create ambiance.   some of us
sagaciously profess that dirty windows are protection against uv rays for
our eyes and furnishings . . . and so on.

all that being said---what is your main gripe about people and/or things,
anywhere, that make your challenges even more slow going?

and:

what do you appreciate most about people and/or things that make your
challenges seem less daunting?

Well, my biggest "pet peeve" is when some twit tells me that I should
lose weight and then I wouldn't need to park in handicapped.  It isn't
like I'm fat or anything.  And even if I were morbidly obese, how
freakin' rude.

The nicest thing...  I went to an early polling place, and was waiting
in line.  One of the election judges saw me (I use a cane), and asked
if the people in front of me would be offended if he allowed me to come
in and sit down, but still wait my turn to vote (so I wasn't jumping
the line).  Everyone said it was fine, and all of them said I could
vote ahead of them.  I didn't, but it was so nice that they said I
could.

i think that it is cruel to tell someone to loose weight.  i have had people
tell me I am so thin[85] that i look terrible.  who are they to judge us.  they
should be in our shoes.   audie

I don't tell strangers or acquaintances I have arthritis because I get
the "lose weight" speech.
I could stand to lose some weight and honestly need to do so....but
the arthritis is in my shoulders and spine?  I have a type of
hereditary cartilage degeneration.....what do these folks know?  Goof
balls....

I say something along the lines, "Stupidity is a disability!"

my gripe---grocery store items on shelves above shoulder level and below
knee level, though i know that cannot be avoided.

appreciate---the two incredibly sweet 17 year old boys, i never met before,
who knocked on my front door tuesday.  they asked my permission to, went
ahead and picked up, filled their truck and hauled away 2 large brush piles
out front and one pile from out back, for me, apparently at one of their
mothers' suggestion.  (and they don't even live in my immediate
neighborhood, but down the road about 2 miles.)  mega w0w!  felt like angels
paid me a visit!  i can't help blessing them and feeling blest.

That was nice of those boys to do that.  Not many do it today.  Oh' by the way,
Please send them over to my house.  ha    audie

And when I think what we go thru to get the two (15 & 16) who live here to
do half that.....

Of course there is more of a feel good about it factor involved.

I appreciate but still get exasperated with those who continue to rattle
things off to me even after I've told them I can't hear.

I also get very tired of having to tell strangers that I'm deaf.  Yes its an
invisible disability but it still gets tiresome.

I love those that are easy to lip read.  Either because they are just easy
to read or they are used to doing it or because they try.

One of the nicest helpers I've had.  I fall down fairly easily.  It was
worse when it first started happening and I didn't take precautions.  I was
at the Military Exchange shopping and stepped off the curb and just
collapsed into the parking lot.  (Now I'm shall we say a big girl)  The
airman behind me, a black kid about 6'5" in uniform just reached down,
picked my up by my elbows, stood me on my feet and asked if I was OK.  No
fuss at all.  He said his mamma fell like that all the time.

My biggest gripe is when people schedule things in the early mornings.
Mornings are my slowest part of the day and I get so ticked when
someone schedules a meeting before work.

I appreciate it sooo much when people offer to help me carry things
like groceries.  Also, my neighbors are the most wonderful people.
They help me with so many things.  I just don't know what I would do
without them.
And my new job is absolutely great!!  I really like people I work with
and the job is so much less demanding.  I'm not on my feet as much and
I can tell already that my health is benefitting from it.  I was so
lucky that my administrators were so understanding and willing to give
me this new position.

It is the way that caring people take care of each other but believe it or
not some people do not actually see what is taking place.    You do and a
person needs to find some way to let them know it.

It is your value to the job,,,, value to getting a job done right that
they see makes all this take place and they did not give it to you,,, you
earned it.   The truth of it is everyone will prosper and take good care of
those people you work with.   It is what is worth far more than the money
you are paid and kind of rare.

Mary and I always try to schedule appointments as early as possible
so we both have the remainder of the day free - possibly for shopping
at the commissary....or maybe heading for the backcountry/hills.

Reminds me.....we have to drive to Boulevard and visit the Wisteria
Candy Cottage again for some creme fills and fudge.   <g>   That
community is about 60 miles east of home.

The Wisteria Candy Cottage was originally the one-room school in
the Mountain Empire School District, but it's been a candy factory
for 75-80 years.  It was one of my favorite stops when dad took the
family for weekend rides in the back country along old U.S. 80 some
55 years ago.

It took me a while to figure out what is number 1 for me - I realized it in
the store the other day.  It's how folks just don't get it about the fatigue!
i'm especially dealing with it now.  I have a lot I'm indirectly committed
to as a result of Mike's new job, a certain level of expectations to meet.
And I came home from my trip so tired, having done more than I should have.
Haven't recovered yet, but I'm a bit better.

the people who do understand and tell me to just lay low and rest, the folks
who make it easier for me just by their attitudes or by the little ways they
help.  It takes so much of the pressure off!  (have I mentioned lately how
much I value my family and my sweetheart of a husband?)
