Well, the hurricanes did $78,000 worth of damage to Larry and Susan's home
so it is being completely replaced. The Corps of Engineers are bringing her
an interim home in the form of a travel trailer. They'll hook up the
water/elec/sewer, etc., while the new house is being built. She says the
SBA guy was trying to hit on her. LOL And since all those things that had
special memories had escaped the storms, she's fine with a new dwelling.
With her Meneirs (sp) and high blood pressure, though, she is going to hire
someone to pack her up and move the stuff.
She wants us all to know that she's okay and recovering. She once again
thanked us for all the prayers and thoughts that have been sent on her
behalf.

That is so good to read. I am really sorry this had to happen to her but
look how well it is being handled and she is handling it. Larry made good
choices and she will do well.

Did her and Larry live in a mobile home. Is she going to build one now?
I'm glad all is well with her.

Yes, sort of. They have/had a non-mobile mobile home. Those are built
pretty solidly these days and are referred to as a house. They own the land
and buy the house to be built on the site. Anyway, she'll be living in her
driveway in the travel trailer until the house is complete.

Glad she is getting a new home out of the hurricane. She deserves it. And
so glad she is doing okay. She's smart to have someone move her.

Wow, lot of damage. Did she have insurance DeeTee? Will
this be a mobile home or a wood and morter one?
She is more alert than I would be -- not sure I would
know a guy was hitting on me unless he was down right
obvious -- it has been so long with the same guy. :)
Tell her I think of her often.

ROFL!! From what she said, he WAS pretty obvious about it. She was doing
some fancy footwork at one point.
It will be another permanent mobile home. No, she did not have insurance,
but the FEMA will be putting in $10K so her mortgage will be manageable.
Not the same as no payment, but do-able.

Thanks, DeeTee, for keeping us up to date on Susans situation. Sure
pray that the new house won't be too long in being rebuilt and that she
will be able to be in it in a fairly reasonable amount of time. Will
she be able to get hurricane insurance for the new home?

Don't know. It may be required with the new mortgage.

It's amazing how quickly the damage adds up. The estimate on my mom's house
was $70,000 - that's for rebuilding a double carport, storage room and one
room of the house. We were surprised how high it was, though she does have
cypress tongue and groove siding. (It was the cheapest stuff around when they
built in '56, now it's much more expensive!) She says that $70K is out of
proportion to the estimated rebuilding cost of the entire house, but State
Farm didn't seem too surprised. Fortunately, she has good insurance and all
those years of premiums are about to pay off for her.
I'm glad to hear that Susan was able to qualify for some assistance in this
whole thing and that she'll have some sort of housing until the one is in
place. Lots of folks in Florida are in for some difficult and busy months!
