We just got the results from this mornings MRI.
Lauren does have an abnormality in her cerebellum tonsils (did ya even know the
that the cerebellum had tonsils?) But it doesn't look like anything to be
worried about! Wooohoooooo! For now they are calling her symptoms migraines.
Sorry the kid has migraines but it coulda been a hell of a lot worse!
Thank you everyone!!!!

Phew! Thanks for the report, but that "cerebellum tonsils" thing is
probably going to plague me for the rest of the day... So, now we'll
just pray for the migraines to go away - forever sounds about right.

Sure did, That is what causes a disease called Chiari malformation which is
often misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia because they often share the same symptoms.

also do a search on "Chiari+malformation"
> But it doesn't look like anything to be worried about! Wooohoooooo!
I have had this since 1958 (diagnosed in 1976) & it isn't any fun. :(
I don't want to scare you or her parents but it isn't something that will get
better by itself & it will probably get worse over time if it isn't corrected.

True, but, A Chiari malformation can be *HELL*. Just imagine the most painful
headache you ever had (including a migraine) & than imagine that pain through
your entire body so even your hair hurts.
IMO/IME the only good thing about Lauren's diagnosis is that now they can
correct it with surgery. In the mean time a *hot* moist compress on the base of
the skull while the head is bent forward can help relieve some of the pressure
on the brain.

Alex,
They were looking for Chiari Malformation but they said it wasn't. They said
the tonsils were slightly elongated but not down into the spinal canal and not
enough to be causing symptoms. I will be watching her close for symptoms of it
though.
I've spent the past two days researching Chiari because I was afraid that was
what they were looking for (one time I did not want to be right). I'm sorry you
have it, from what I've read it must truly suck!!!!

Great news. Sorry she suffers with migraines, though. My daughter is
19 and has had them terribly since she was 9 years old.

What a relief that must be.
