Squirrely - 16 Sep 2004 10:42 GMT I beleive from the reaction I have had tonight, that I am now allergic to choc. chip cookies. I can't believe this.
This is what I am doing up so late. Can't breathe, no not lungs, but nasal passages are swollen shut, right ear feels like someone put a rock in it and can't hear out of it. Eyes are puffy, and tearing. All after eating those darn cookies. Blurry vision too. I thought at first it was a blood sugar reaction. Then it progressed. NOt the kind of thing to be eating with a stomach flu/virus either but they said to eat because of the diabetic thingy. Blood sugars have been jumping around like mad. But most of them are low low low. Having hypoglycemia attacks.
Also can't sleep tonight either becuase of the muscle in my right calf. My fault of course. Sitting out on the garden cart thingy. Talking with Jim and picking up a few weeds here and there and seeds too. Just from that little tiny bit I did, paying the price. I know better to move that cart while I am sitting on it. But it gets me every time.
Oh well such is life and one of these days I will learn.

>Squirrely Jo Ack! Allergic to chocolate chip cookies?!?! You poor girl! This is horrible. Maybe it's just "part" of the cookies. Did the cookies have nuts in them Jo? Any weird ingredients?
Life without 'em is just sad. Hope it's just something freaky and you're able to eat them again soon.
Hugs,

I've heard that life is unfair, but that is carrying it too far.
What else can go wrong in this world when a person is allergic to chocolate chip cookies?
Squirrely - 17 Sep 2004 09:05 GMT Yes as a matter of fact, they are double chunky choc. New brand Jim has been buying. I sneak a few here and there. that is how I found out I have a problem with them.

My mom used to have the same reaction until I stopped putting the Walnuts in the baking mix, then the reaction stopped (she later asked that I just stop putting in the chocolate chips too, but that's another story).
Just a theory (no one should have to go without Choco chip cookies). Daughter has hypoglycemia, she eats 6 small meals a day because of it, but pretty much anything she wants (the snot), peanut butter helps her, but if you're allergic to nuts (I know peanuts aren't really *nuts*)...
I'm not much help, sorry... sympathy for you.
Smokie Darling (Annie)
Squirrely - 17 Sep 2004 09:04 GMT No nuts. I can't really eat nuts anyways. Not an allergic just messes with me.
I eat 6 small meals too. But I have an infection and it is messing with my blood sugars. Once again I am weird. The nurse tells me it should be making my blood sugars go up but instead they are bottoming out.

Squirrely - 17 Sep 2004 09:02 GMT Yes, Dad, I know.
But if I don't eat what I can eat, then I will starve. I can't eat any veggies, fruits, certain meats, am down to turkey and chicken only. Suspect I am having a fish allergy too now. So only eat it about once a month now. No juices, half the time no milk, I do cheat on that one sometimes. So there is not alot out there that I can eat. Just the turkey and chicken, bread, pasta, tomato sauce (only at times though becuase that one is starting to mess with stomach too), no fats, no greasy stuff, no oily stuff. When I eat chicken noodle soup. I can't have the broth, it kills my stomach. It is not choice, I want the other stuff to eat but can't eat it. I would kill for a salad, or some canteloupe, or peaches, or bananas. It is not that I don't like the stuff, it don't like me.
I am trying the best I can with this stuff.
I know the drs are not taking care of me. But what can a person do that her body rebells against everything.

There are people that their body rejects nearly everything taken or eaten. It can be a physical thing with a persons immune system and it can also be the games we play within our own mind. In both cases, it takes the best of help and a person that really wants to control what is taking place. You are doing the best you can to understand and get better and that is all any of us can do. Harv
Squirrely - 18 Sep 2004 09:31 GMT Harv,
thanks for those thoughts. I am really trying to do the best I can. I think mine is my immune system. It sure seems to have gone on the brink for along time now.
I said years ago, that I was allergic to life and probably needed to be put in a bubble. Time is showing that to be almost true.
Shoot, tonight, I am having allergy problems from my puter. I thought it was because this one smells like something is burning. But I took notice also that when I use the one in the bedroom I get same symptoms too. But it could be all the results of the day too. I think the cookie thing might have been a mistake. I hope.
The nurse that saw me today for treatment, said she was up last night with her daughter having same problems as me. She said it was because of the fire that has been burning, the dust storm and the almond harvesting going on. So maybe because it started after I ate the cookies, maybe it wasn't really the cookies after all. Maybe it is just really bad allergies that hit at night. Don't know.
Thanks again Harv, it does mean alot to me.

> Yes, Dad, I know. > > But if I don't eat what I can eat, then I will starve. No you won't. People in this century eat way more than is needed to survive. You just need to eat small quantities of what you can eat many times a day.
> I can't eat any veggies, fruits, certain meats, am down to turkey and > chicken only. Is that organically grown veggies, fruits & meats? If not do you wash the veggies & fruits thoroughly?
> Suspect I am having a fish allergy too now. So only eat it about once a > month now. You're probably sensitive to the high level of chemicals (mercury) that is in most fish now. We get Polar Tuna for the cats & I do sushi while I'm feeding them. ^_^ If they won't eat something I won't eat it. ^_^
> No juices, half the time no milk, I do cheat on that one sometimes. Most fruit juices are just corn sweetener with a little fruit any way. I just drink double filtered water with a swish of lemon juice for flavor. You need to find a dairy that doesn't kill the milk when they pasteurize it. I drink 16 oz of whole milk & eat 4 oz cottage cheese & 8 oz of yogurt a day.
> So there is not alot out there that I can eat. Just the turkey and chicken, > bread, pasta, For breakfast I eat one slice of buttered whole grain bread (made with honey) & 4 oz of yogurt.
Lunch is 2 oz of brown rice with 2 oz of ground turkey (made like a meat loaf). 16 oz milk warmed, with 1 tbs. instant coffee & 1 tbs. local honey.
Supper is 2 oz turkey, 2 oz of veggies, 2 oz cottage cheese with 2 oz canned peaches or pears in fruit juice & a 16 oz cup of tea.
> tomato sauce (only at times though because that one is > starting to mess with stomach too), no fats, no greasy stuff, no oily stuff. > When I eat chicken noodle soup. I can't have the broth, it kills my stomach. That sounds like Gall bladder problems in addition to MCS.

After 26 years of not being able to eat most 'normal' foods I've gotten used to living on what I can eat & only eating small quantities at a time. Sarah did find a whole grain vegie pizza I can eat. ^_^

Squirrely - 19 Sep 2004 09:29 GMT I will starve if if I can't eat anything. If I go off the other stuff that you said, I won't have anything to eat.
I do eat 6 small meals. It was the infection that made my blood sugars go haywire from what the drs and nurses are saying. But they did expect them to go high instead of low.
I wish I could eat yogurt all the time, but of course I can't. I have to watch stuff because of my milk intolerance too.
Yes I did wash the veggies and fruits when I could eat them. But stomach and bowels will not tolerate them at all now.
I still think it is gall bladder too but they say no my gall bladder looks healthy.
I also know alot of my allergy problems are MCS but have not been diagnosed with it. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I am allergic to so many chemicals, that it makes sense.
Oh by the way Dad, when I do use choc chips for the blood sugar thing. It is because they tell me to use orange juice. I can't drink orange juice now for 24 yrs. It started when I was pregnant with the boys and has continued on since. ;-)
They tell you when the blood sugars drop below 70 to eat something with sugar and then within a half hour to follow it with protein. So that is what I do. I don't eat alot of choc. chips. I have a three ounce dixie cup and Jim gets me about a row on the bottom of it. It is enough to start bringing up my blood sugars again.

> I will starve if if I can't eat anything. If I go off the other stuff that > you said, I won't have anything to eat. Then *you* need to figure out what you can eat. Keep a journal of what causes problems & what doesn't. List any added ingredients in foods that bother you.
Find an organic farmer in your area & try chemical free versions of the things that caused problems (small portions) & if they don't cause problems you know it is the additives causing the problem.
> I do eat 6 small meals. It was the infection that made my blood sugars go > haywire from what the drs and nurses are saying. But they did expect them to > go high instead of low. That is because the best they can do is make an educated guess based on the way the 'average' person usually reacts to something.
> I wish I could eat yogurt all the time, but of course I can't. I have to > watch stuff because of my milk intolerance too. Try yogurt made from goats milk. There has to be someone in your area that raises goats & makes yogurt.
> Yes I did wash the veggies and fruits when I could eat them. But stomach and > bowels will not tolerate them at all now. Some thing is upsetting your digestive enzymes. That is what yougrt is good at helping. http://www.medhelp.org/gov/www25.htm
> I still think it is gall bladder too but they say no my gall bladder looks > healthy. Your gall bladder may be healthy but it may be over or under producing bile. It is your gall bladder & it is up to you to train it to work properly.
> I also know alot of my allergy problems are MCS but have not been diagnosed > with it. A diagnosis won't change anything. If additives & chemicals effect you it is up to you to find out which ones bother you & eliminate them from your diet & environment. Many MCS problems are caused by the way some food producers process their product.
> But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I am allergic to > so many chemicals, that it makes sense. True, it just takes a person that realizes that the medical community can't think for them & they need to manage their own body because no one else can do it for them.
> Oh by the way Dad, when I do use choc chips for the blood sugar thing. It is > because they tell me to use orange juice. I can't drink orange juice now for > 24 yrs. It started when I was pregnant with the boys and has continued on > since. ;-) Choc chips are made with processed sugar & that is a No No for anyone with hypoglycemia problems, because it kicks the pancreas into high production of insulin which is the real problem. Try locally produced honey.
> They tell you when the blood sugars drop below 70 to eat something with > sugar and then within a half hour to follow it with protein. So that is what > I do. That is like throwing gasoline on a fire to put it out. Hypoglycemia is something the medical community hasn't studied & doesn't teach in medical school. Most doctors don't even believe it exists.
Hypoglycemia is a symptom of something else that prevents the body using blood sugar the way it should. It can be a symptom of an over active pancreas, an under active thyroid or insulin resistance caused by something else.
> I don't eat alot of choc. chips. I have a three ounce dixie cup and > Jim gets me about a row on the bottom of it. It is enough to start bringing > up my blood sugars again. Like I said, try using locally produced raw honey. You can even put it on boils to speed up healing. ^_^ GramPaHugs, Alex,

But I do so like the livers too. I used to buy extra livers and gizzards and hearts so I could bake them up and eat them for lunch.
I think the cookies might have been a mistake. I am the same way again tonight and no cookies. So it is all this allergy stuff getting to me at one time I guess. Dr is changing my allergy med so we shall see if that helps.

Char - 19 Sep 2004 10:31 GMT >Jim takes my ground turkey and makes me a turkey burger since I can't have a >hamburger. For years I have used ground turkey as a substitute for ground beef, in everything. Even in such things as chili, or tater tot casserole.
Recently, when chicken hind quarters go on sale for next to nothing (28 cents a lb. the last time), we buy up a bunch of it. Usually at least 20lbs. We then separate the thighs and drumsticks, skin the chicken, remove the bone from the thighs and grind it up. And freeze the drumsticks whole. We LOVE the ground chicken. Makes wonderful "burgers".
I make a patty of the ground chicken, dip it in seasoned flour (like you used to flour chicken pieces for frying), and fry in a non stick skillet with just about a tablespoon of canola oil. They are really very very good.
And to those doing the South Beach Diet, I confess, I ate it in a sandwich. And I am glad I did! bwaaahhhhaaaahhhhhaaaaaa (laughing maniacally) With a slice of tomato and some mayo. Char

My Dad and I used to "fight" over the gizzards, when I was a kid, but I always won. My Mom told me a few years ago, that Dad didnt really like gizzards, but he did like "fighting" over them with me. I never realized that. LOL Makes the memory that much more sweet. Char

> Hey Squirrelly - > [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > > Kitty Newsgroup Spambuster - 27 Sep 2004 17:19 GMT SJ,
I agree with Alex. Keep a journal of everything you eat and drink and see if you can find a common thread in the ingredients that might be causing you problems.
Also, have you ever considered doing an elimination diet to see if you can find some of your food allergies and such?
Have you ever considered going to a homeopathic or natureopathic doctor to try and get help with some of your allergy issues? Sometimes they can find things that traditional doctors can't find. Talk and get to know the people in your local health food stores to see if they can make suggestions of things you might try. Often time the people in your local health food stores will also let you try a small sample of something before buying which can be most helpful.
Like Alex, mentioned, try yougurt every day. Even with a bit of a milk intolerance, you should be able to handle a small 4 oz carton of yougurt, but be careful of the fruit flavored ones that may have dye added in for coloring.
Instead of orange juice, chocolate chips or other candy for your low blood sugar readings, try a saltine cracker or two and a tablespoon of peanut butter.
try keeping around your house things small portion items like string cheese, crackers, peanut butter, raisins, tuna, any kind of nuts that you might be able to tolerate, any fruits that might be tolerated, even with the IBS, you should be able to tolerate some fruits and veggies. Hey, if you like chicken livers, then cook up a batch and put them in small portion containers to have when you just need to eat a little something. If you can eat soups, then make lots of soups and freeze them in small quantities. Maybe look into a probiotic type supplement to help your intestinal issues.
Go to ganedenbiotech.com and look at some of their free samples they offer for IBS supplements and digestive aid supplements. Both of these supplements have lactobacillus in them which can be helpful to your entire intestinal tract.
If your regular doctors aren't finding the problems, keep everything you can written in a journal to try and help find the culprit as well as try some other types of doctors like the homeopathic doctors. Sooner or later you will come upon a regimen of what will work for you and your life should get a bit easier.
Best of luck!
