Has anyone tried the once a week Fosomax? Did you have any side effects and
what were they? How long have you been taking it?
Thanks,
debbie m.

Hi,
I have been on it for about 1 1/2 years, once a week. No problems, only side
effect, I now have fingernails, they started growing almost right away. Nice
side effect.

Been on once a week for close to two years now with no side effects that
I am aware of. Keep in mind that I am a boy type person so any of
'those' kind of side effects don't apply.

I tried it twice. I did not have the typical side effect of GI upset
as I followed directions: take the pill with water on an empty
stomach, and do not lie down for half an hour. However, Fosamax did
increase my TMJ pain. TMJ specialist says that I could not handle the
change in my calcium balance.
Good luck,

I tried one and the acid reflux was so bad I never took another. I am
however taking both Evista and Actonel. The Actonel is basically Fosomax
but at half the dose. It is taken once a week too and I have only very
minor trouble if I am not careful with acid reflux the day I take it. I
never have acid reflux otherwise.

What an eyeopening day this has been! I've been reading these and other
comments on other sites from people experiencing side effects from taking
Fosomax. Until today, I had never made any connection between taking
Fosomax (since May 2004) and the aches and pains I've started experiencing
over the past six months to a year. The more I read, the more of my own
symptoms I discovered other people in my age group were "suddenly" having.
I have my annual physical in a few days and believe me, I will be telling
(not asking) my doctor that I want to go off it at least for a few months
to see if my symptoms go away. I'm only 53 and I don't think I should be
feeling so old and decrepit and in such pain.

I just told my doc "I am quitting Fosamax". I'm totally embarrassed by all
the flatulence (and I told him I looked it up and sure enough--it is a side
affect). Jan O'

You too? Goodness! Who knew? Flatulance, joint pain (hips, knees), pain
in the bottom of my feet, tennis elbow type pain and pain in finger joints
and wrist, sleep disturbance, and the list goes on.

hmmm, sure sich I could blame my aches and pains on Fosamax! Unfortunately,
they preceeded me taking that med by 18 years and haven't worsened any since
I've been on it. (Actually, the aches and pains have improvved some once we
got good enough insurance for me to go on Enbrel!)

I was on Fosomax for 3 years. Just had my latest bone scan, everything
back to normal, no more need for Fosomax at this time.
That is a super side effect and no difference regarding aches and
pains. I have enough to go around. This is just one less thing to
worry about now my bones are normal again.

That's what we are hoping for with me. If my bone density is good again,
maybe I can get off Fosamax this summer and start to wean off Premarin. It
would certainly be nice to have something improving that way! And I'd love
not having that one morning/week that I have to wait to take pain meds.
