Since I have been taking Glucosamine Condroitan (2 weeks now) I have had
trouble with gas. Has anyone else experienced this.

Hhhm, yes and I do not even take the stuff but hick-ups are just as bad when
singing in the choir.   We have an alto that can bring about a 5 minute
break in choir practice.  Nowww she might me taking it.     :-)

I know "gas" may be a funny topic but it is very distressful. I can't go out
of the house. I am looking for causes and solutions.

Thank you,
Boca Jan

Welcome to my world.  Solutions aren't always easy to come by.  All the
different meds many of us take keeps our insides on a Roller Coaster.  So
sometimes we just have to decide whether to laugh or cry.

I have a lot of problem with gas, and not a lot of luck with the why's and
wherefor's.  One nice side effect for me of the Phase I South Beach for me
has been a calming down of my insides.  But phase I isn't something you can
do forever.

My idea of a "solution" is I know when I've been sitting on the couch for a
while watching TV there is likely to be a problem when I get up.  Usually
I'd grab the dog and take her outside right away if there is anyone around
and I can control it that long.

But you do have to be reasonable with yourself as you would with anyone
else.  Some things are beyond ones control.  The saying in my family when
someone burps noticeably is "not bad manners, just good food."  Unless its a
ten year old that has learned how to do it on purpose.

You do realize the only reason some people have dogs is so they can blame
them, right?

Hi All,,,   Sorry about the humor but it is a problem that we all have to
deal with and medicines sometime take a part in it.   I will say that I have
found that having a day of fast (sp?) every now and then and taking
Acidophilus to have the right bacteria working in our gut    does help me.

Thank you Harvey! I will try that. Of course a fast must be accompanied by
pills I take. (sigh) I hope the acidophilus will help.

I understand your distress, Jan.  I've had that problem since I've been on
Arava, but fortunately it is only in the first few hours after taking it.  I
take it in the evening after dinner - the gas is less if I take it then and
my DH is the only one who has to put up with it.

2 thoughts - you might try taking something like Beano to see if that cuts
down on it.  Or if you aren't certain if it is the G/CS, you could try
stopping it for a few days to see if the gas goes away.  oh, and more
thoughts.... you might ask the pharmacist if s/he knows anything about it.
It's possible it's just one of the ingredients affecting you or maybe one of
the inert ingredients and another brand might work for you.  And do you have
the problem around the clock?  If not, a solution such as mine above might
work for you.

that's all the thimking I can handle for now..........

Probably a large contributing factor is what you eat.  Some culprits could be
from the cabbage family, like cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts.
But different people can have different triggers.  My husband can not eat beef.
It just seems to lie in his gut and rot, and the result is that he smells like
a three day old corpse on a hot summer day, when he passes gas.  He can not
even stand himself.  So the cure is no beef for him.  Fortunately neither of us
have ever been big beef eaters.  We prefer pork and poultry.

As for other solutions, have you tried any of the OTC treatments like Beano?

Eewww, Char, TMI!!  ROFL!!  I don't do cabbage for the same reason, except
coleslaw doesn't appear to affect me.
