I've been sitting here a bit too long and wanted to let you know what I
found out last week with the second opinion ortho surgeon. Basically the
epidural question was just for general information and not an option for my
compression fracture pain since there is no nerve involvement. He also said
there is not a doctor in town that does the procedure where they put the
bone cement in the vertebra. Apparently the bone cement can leak out into
the spinal cord area and that's not a good thing. He said he did to a few
patients when it first came out but it didn't have the kind of results they
wanted and didn't really do much to restore height. He said I'm about
halfway healed at this point anyway and that the risk is just too great with
my other problems. He talked with me about 45 minutes and answered all my
questions and even discussed my other spine problems as well. He rxed
another brace that is a custom made corset and much more comfortable than
the other one. He doesn't want me to wear it all the time either which is
better. I was still disappointed with his news but felt better with more
information.  I also found out that they can get you in in 3 days for
critical problems instead of 3-4 weeks like the other place. I've decided to
make the second opinion doc my primary ortho from now on.

Still can't stay in one position too long, especially at the end of the day
so I'm gonna go now.  Thanks for all your advice, prayers, and well wishes.
I have you all in my thoughts and prayers.

He sounds like a huge improvement over the other doctor.  Sorry he can't do
more right now, but at least you know all the hows and whys now, or so it
sounds.  sending more prayers and healing vibes your way.  Hey, from what I
ehar about the weather in Florida lately, it's a good time to be indoors
anyway!

So, did the second opinion ortho think it would finish healing on its own?
Hope the new brace works out well for you.

Yes, he said there is evidence of two other healed compression fractures that
have healed so he feels that these will heal as well. The problem was that
there were two vertabra next to each other and one was about 60%. He said I was
about half way there 6 out of 12 week healing period. I am feeling better and
walking with the new brace is a big comfort.

what a relief to find a doctor who talks sense and gives it to you straight.
Sounds like you've found your local doc for any spine problems.  May the
healing continue apace and each day be better than the one before.

Diane W,

I sure hope this dr does work out for you. It sounds like he is better
working with you on things.

I hope the other brace works out well for you and that it does the trick.

It is good that you will be able to get in to see him in 3 days instead of
waiting so long.

Take care and know I am thinking of you.
