Hi there. Can anyone recommend a good self-propelled vaccuum cleaner?
Mine's just getting too hard to push these days. It would also be good
if the controls are up in the handle and not down low. I don't want to
have to bend too much. And it'd be nice if it's very light. Thanks alot
for any advice! Patty

I don't have a self propelled as the ones I could find were so much heavier
that it kind of ruined the whole idea.

Someone here knows, are Oricks very light (and kind of expensive)

I have a Hoover Windtunnel I like, and the only low controls are foot
operated.  I get Charlie and the kids to operate it as much as possible.
Also use a Dustbuster a lot for crumbs and scattered cat litter etc.

And I have a little robot vacuum that we turn loose sometimes.  It does a
pretty good job but is more of a novelty than a really useful appliance.
It's dustbin isn't big enough to hold much.  Might be more realistic if I
didn't have teens in cleats walking thru.

I am on another group and someone talked about an Oreck. Many people said
they were the worst vaccum for the money, even tho they were light. My
vacuum is easy to push, but hard to pull. It is a Sears self propelled
cannister. Eck!

OK, I have an Oreck, not an ulrick.  At any rate, it you have to vacuum, it's
easier to use.  I really like mine.

Oreck-can't do without it

The Oreck is light in weight and very heavy in cost. I am not sure I like it
that much, in other words, for the money I was expecting something better. I
do like the hand vac that comes with it, good for getting the cat fur out of
the 'fur'niture. But, with RA, something easier to handle is really needed.
and though it is light is not all that easeir to handle with hands that
hurt.

When I was soliciting vacuum cleaner recommendations, there were two
recurring recommendations: Hoover Wind Tunnel and Oreck. I ended up with
the WindTunnel. It's not light, but it is self-propelled. The power
switch is near the top of the handle, and the angle of the handle is
adjusted with a foot pedal. You do have to bend to adjust the brush
height (necessary if you have drastically different kinds of carpet). I
moved my old, non-self-propelled vacuum down to the basement, so the
fact that this is pretty heavy doesn't matter much. I know some folks
here have Orecks, so they can tell you how well they clean and how
maneuverable they are.

Have you heard of the roomba? It's a robotic vacuum cleaner. We got one
last year, and I swear by it! Push a button and it automatically cleans the
floor. You can walk away and leave it alone in a room, and it just goes to
town. We got the 'pro elite' version so we could use the remote control.
The only bending I do is to pick it up and empty it out every so often, and
it only weighs around 6 or 7 lbs. It doesn't bother the dog, either,
although she does bark at it sometimes. ;)

Wow, are you kidding??? That sounds too good to be true! Just checked it all
out, thanks for the link.

So, you really like it? I might consider it. I didn't even know there was
such a thing!

I have an ulrich.  It's not self-propelled but it's so light that it doesn't
bother me like a regular vacuum.
