Thought I should share a little trick with the group.... Whenever you're
having a bad day, stick on some comedy in the evening - videos, DVDs, you
can even get tapes and CDs of stand-up acts (try amazon.co.uk?). Eddie
Izzard, Ross Noble, Eddie Murphy, Bill Bailey, Greg Proops.... whoever makes
you laugh. When we feel happy the brain is less sensitive to pain - trust
me, I studied psychology for 3 years. The brain is just an extension of the
body. In fact, you could see the brain as just a thermostat for the body -
thats what its for, it regulates body chemistry. When we're in a good mood,
it affects the whole body, not just the brain. Psychology is definately
another way to deal with arthritis, and comedy is a good way to get a good
night's sleep (for me at least). But don't listen to it in bed, that'll just
keep you awake - listen before you go to bed.

That's all folks

James, I have believed in the use of comedy to aid many things...
but sometimes ya just gotta weep and get it out of your system then
keep on going.

Donnah,

I'd agree over that, usually. But even though I was started the evening
feeling cruddy, watching Robin Williams live (on Broadway?) DVD nearly had
me needing Depends; and I felt so good afterwards.

Don't you just LOVE that DVD??  I got it as a gift a little over a year
ago, and whenever I get really down, I put it on. No matter how many
times I've watched it, he can still have me laughing so hard that I'm in
tears!!  I love the whole bit he does on breast implants!  But the
entire DVD is mega excellent!!!

If any of you have not yet seen it - buy it, rent it, get it at the
library - but make sure you see it!!  To me, he's the funniest man on
the planet!!

Carole :)

What's it rated?  I love Robin Williams, but sometimes he gets a little
profane.

Forget a little. It was very profane. And extraordinarily funny! Not sure of
the official rating, but I would give it an R leaning to NC 17. And I mean
very profane. Not only the bit on breast implants, but an incredibly funny
routine on cunnilingus.

Can't remember more of the routines, because it's been so long since I saw
it. I just remember my face hurting because I was laughing so hard, and
having to take a potty break so I wouldn't pee my pants.

Iagree with Donnah that sometimes you absolutely have to cry just to release
that pressure valve - sometimes you feel so lousy you can't laugh.  I also
think laughter is on of the greatest things for helping us feel better when
we can laugh!

What has really sucked was the times when my ribcage hurt so badly that
laughter and crying were both prohibitively painful.  Still can't really bawl
my eyes out or laugh hysterically without it hurting like the devil, but at
least I can laugh some now.  poor Mike, it just about broke his heart when I
couldn't laugh!
