Asking for Prayers Again!

donnah - 08 Jul 2004 15:59 GMT my ASA family... please say prayers, chants, wave a magic wand, dance, whatever...
I need prayers...you know I was sick most of June from the infection. That delayed my really starting PT as I needed too...although running to the bathroom actually helped the knee. Now I am having trouble getting the flexion I need...the ortho has "threatened" me with doing manual manipulation under anesthesia unless I have 90 degrees by next Friday. By beating the head of my PT, she can get near 90 or a degree or two more...I just can't do it myself yet. I am doing my pt religiously, too. My PT has told me that because of being so sick that it has set me back and she feels that in time I will get more flexion--well, I want her to tell the ortho that and for him to quit being so over-bearing
:) I know I need more flexion and I am willing to work for it, but I can not stand the thought of being anywhere near a hospital, needle, etc.--it makes me want to throw up. sigh...am I making sense?? I'm still having brain fog but seem to have latched on to his words as a dire threat and I know that's stupid!
oh help, please---I need to quit being a CS and relax, I know, but could you keep me in your thoughts? Thanks for listening, donnah

This might be one of those times it would be easier to state your case by sending the doctor a fax. Surgeons never listen to patients, hardly ever listen to anyone else, and only occasionally listen to PT's and other Doctors, particularly if the other doctors are not surgeons.

donnah - 09 Jul 2004 16:38 GMT thanks, Jo... in one way, I am lucky as my pcp is friends with the ortho and can attest to how sick I have been. and now that you have mentioned it, I see the gastro doc on Monday and will ask him to "verify"... thanks! donnah

donnah - 09 Jul 2004 16:42 GMT thank you, M... I am so doing my best to get caught up, but it's going to take time and I don't think the ortho is looking at the whole picture... Yesterday the PT said she is going to fax him progress notes before the appt...she feels I have done well considering how sick I've been and that another week or so would be beneficial...so maybe he'll see beyond his ego and listen? donnah

Hi DonnaH,,,, Ya know,,, my niece is an RN that does the same thing that the nurse that talked to you does. I am going to be blunt. You have to get the range they want you to have or you are going to ruin the operation objectives and future success. If you can not do it,,,, then take what ever procedure they have offered to get it done. You know you are in my prayers and believe me when I say the God knows who DonnaH is AND needs. You can do it.... Try a little harder. Endure a little more.. Sure, sure easy for me to say.

Those muscles are probably already inflamed & don't need heat. They need to be cooled down to reduce inflammation. If you can't tolerate ice try using a cool damp towel or a cool not frozen gel pack. > > Hi Donnah, > > [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] > > Adelle Carole - 10 Jul 2004 21:49 GMT Hi Donnah,
I can't tolerate ice either, but last year when I had my knee injury, I got this cold compress thingee at the drugstore. I got it at CVS but I'm sure they have it at other stores. It was called Instant Cold, and it said it gave the relief of ice without the pain. It really worked for me, so you might want to give it a try. You just have to remember to put a wee bit of water in the plastic bag when you put it back, and it doesn't have to be refrigerated. There is a chemical in it that makes it cold. It really helped me a lot :)

I'd be a CS and there ain't much I'm a CS about but surgery is one of 'em. The fact you came thru having the knee done is non-CSness. :-)
Sending ya the bestest of good vibes and a ton and a half of healing wishes!

donnah - 10 Jul 2004 14:28 GMT I've been rocking, Char, even when I was so sick... but my daughter is bringing me her rocker since it's a different style than Nick's big chair so that may help, too. His is an over stuffed recliner, glider, etc. and was killing my lower back...so that may also help account for the lack of progress. thanks! donnah
