Good News, Thanks, and More Little Prayers Needed

Carole - 06 Jul 2004 18:39 GMT First of all, I want to tell you that you are some of the best friends I've ever had even though I've never met you. With your help, I'll be able to pay my rent by Friday. I do have to pay late fees, but I'm not going to stress on that, and will just have to owe them to the office and pay them when I can. I want to publicly thank everyone who helped me, you know who you are :) Mom always said "What goes around, comes around", and please know that good things will come to you :)
Second, I just heard from the agency and I got the job at AT&T Wireless. It's an entry level call center job, but that's OK :) I'll have money coming in regularly. And when I went there for the interview, it looked like a nice friendly place to work - lots of people so I can make new friends and get out of this apartment and be with people. I have to work for the agency for a few months before AT&T can hire me into the company, but I'm praying that will all go well as the benefits there are really good. And we all know what it means to have benefits, and to be without them as I am now.
Lastly, I still need some little prayers. The agency said they have to do a background check. Since I am from NY, this can take a few days. If they can get it through fast, I can start on the 12th, if not it would be the 26th. Since there are a ton of bills sitting here that have to be paid, I really need to go to work on the 12th. So I'm figuring that if I can get everyone to pray really hard, we can get the paperwork to come through and I'll be able to start on Monday.
You know, I've often had people tell me that the internet is a waste and that people out there are not real. I've always told them that they were wrong as I've "met" so many wonderful people being online. I want you all to know that since I have no family, you are all like my family. I love you all so much and if it wasn't for you all, I don't think I would have made it through this. You were there to laugh with me, you were there to cry with me, and most of all you were there to give me unconditional love and hugs when I needed it. I hope that someday I will get to meet at least some of you in person. But know, that you will all always be in my prayers :)
Hugs and Love, Carole :)
RhondaM - 06 Jul 2004 19:16 GMT I agree I met one of my best friends online.. we have been buddies since 1996. I met them in a chat room. Met them in person. I have a relationship with their family and parents. There are REAL people out there, just allot of weirdoes too. If you weed out the weird ones then you'll find some pretty decent people here. I post to this group and the Lupus group and there are several very nice and decent people on here and you have seen for yourself some very caring people too. I am glad there has been some sunshine on your life recently and sounds like you are going in the right direction. :o)

Just remember that you are there to do the job,,,,,, their way,,,, to give them what they want for the money you earn. I have seen a few people here that as soon as they get the job,,,,, its all about them,,,,, well its not about them or you. Its about earning your money and making your working there a company profit.... That is the secret to continued employment. The other thing is that its takes some luck in that the company you work for is doing well and will continue to operate. If not,,, its not your fault and time to do it all over again. hugs and love to you too and may this be a rewarding job for you. Harv

The thing that is up in the air is the Cingular is taking over AT&T Wireless, so no one knows what will happen in the future...however, the woman who interviewed me told me that Cingular will still need people, so hopefully there will be a place for me too :)

This is very interesting. Will there be changes in AT&T? That is who I am with now. If there is I hope they are for the better!

All I know is I've been with AT&T wireless for quite a while and the coverage where I live stinks. Since Cingular bought out AT&T part of the time my phone says its one and part of the time it says its the other, but I do have good overall coverage for the first time. And my bill doesn't list it as roaming, just all one service. In any case it doesn't appear that Cingular bought them out to shut them down. For now and looking at their advertising, it looks like they are running it as one company with two names. They are still advertising AT&T Wireless heavily.

Carole - 08 Jul 2004 08:09 GMT Cingular was always a GSM company. AT&T jumped on the GSM bandwagon late in the game. I'm thinking that Cingular will put to use AT&T's equipment to gain better overall coverage. I've been told by a number of friends out here that their phones are switching from one company to the other depending on where the signal is coming from. But combining the two has to give customers better coverage, so that has to be a good thing :)

Carole - 09 Jul 2004 04:05 GMT Thanks, everyone!
And I stopped at the jewellers today, and he told me that with new watches, you can't put the back on yourself (with or without arthritis). You need a special machine that looks like a press. He was really nice and fixed my watch for me and didn't charge me anything :) I promised him that next time I'd bring it in and just have him change the battery :)

Carole - 10 Jul 2004 01:35 GMT Thanks, Donna.
Now that I've found this job, I have to scramble to find a part time job as well as I lost my food stamps. This job will cover my bills with nothing left over for food or clothing, or anything else. So I'm going to have to find something else as well. I tried to get my food stamps back today, but I was turned down as I will now be making too much money to qualify.

Oh CRAP! Are you kidding me?
You can still go to food pantrys, though. And check with local churches about some kind of help on an ongoing basis. Not much, just enough to keep you eating. Char

Since Cingular bought out AT&T [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > it looks like they are running it as one company with two names. > They are still advertising AT&T Wireless heavily. I've had Cingular for many years since it was Houston Cellular. We always have great service and incredible coverage areas. I have a multi-network phone so when I'm in areas where there is no GSM service or digital service, my phone switched to analog automatically. They are in the process of going to GSM everywhere. From what I understand, after the merge is completed, they should be updating all the repeaters and the coverage area should be almost the entire US. Usually, when no one else can get a signal, my phone will work. We've always had very good customer service with them, too. I hope it works out well for you. Mag

I had to cancel my phone a few months back as I just couldn't afford it anymore. One of the nice things about this job is that once you get hired permanently you get a free phone :) The only place I found that the phone didn't work was when I was going across the country...when you're on highways like the I-90 there are no towers or antennae, so ergo no signal. The only time I got a signal was when I got close to a very large town or city, but out on the open road, nada.

Carole - 08 Jul 2004 08:06 GMT No one knows...Cingular is in the process of taking over. They said that the call center out here would still be needed as it's the only one on the west coast. I guess like the song title says "Only Time Will Tell". I just hope I can get enough time in that if I do get laid off, I can get unemployment benefits.

Cindy - 07 Jul 2004 14:45 GMT My brother would have to disagree with the way you use to think. He was almost 40 when he met his wife on the internet. She lived in Lousianna and we live in Oklahoma. She has a daughter. He got an instant family and at age 43 he got married for the first time and now has a son that is a year old...
Carole you are a wonderful person and I am so lucky to have met you on the internet.... Sending Prayers that you get to work on the 12th... Hugs Cindy
Carole - 07 Jul 2004 16:42 GMT Thanks, Cindy :)
I'm really happy your brother found his love on the internet. So many good things have happened to me since I first went online. Maybe someday I'll meet my love on here as well :) Or maybe since I'll now be working at a HUGE company . . . hey, you never know :)
Hugs, Carole :)

Its a lifeline for me, in part because I'm always on the darn computer anyway. In part because I don't get out like I might because it takes so long to start the day when you hurt all over. And in part because here it just makes no difference to anyone that I am deaf. It gets so tiresome when I'm out shopping or anything and at least once before I finish I'll have to say to someone, I'm sorry, I'm deaf. Either that I can't help them or I can't understand them trying to help me. Whether they are a stranger trying to ask a question, or just someone trying to help me. It just gets old. (And why now, do I look so darn approachable to older than I am ladies in the stores who want to ask where something is etc? LOL)
