Enbrel and blood pressure

Asking again on behalf of another, who has trouble with blood pressure
spiking every time she tries NSAIDs.  In fact, it seems that her
long-term use of low-dose prednisone on an every-other-day schedule
was aggravating her blood pressure - now that (on the way off the
drug) she has switched to an every-day (ever-lower dose) use of
prednisone, the blood pressure problem seems much better - until she
tries an NSAID.

So finally the question - has anybody experienced or heard about or
seen a warning about blood pressure problems when using Enbrel?

I have not.

Thanks.

Enbrel is not a NSAID but a DMARD. Do you know which NSAID's she has
used? All the new ones cause blood pressure issues for me. My old
reliable Feldene does not. But it does cause tummy problems for lots of
people.
If she can get on a working DMARD, she might not need an NSAID.

That should take you to the place that you can download the prescribing
info for Enbrel. I did find on page 19 some counter indications for
people with previous heart failure. More info again on page 27. But this
sounds like it is for people you have congestive heart failure and not
simple BP issues. This info may be too much information for some
patients and you will have to use your judgment on how much you should
impart. Personally, I like to make any medication decisions based with
wide open eyes. If Enbrel can get her to a pain free zone, she will feel
so much better. I see her goal as no pred, no NSAID, no pain pills and
Enbrel. No pred is all of our goals. sigh...

Yes, I understand that, sorry I was not clear.

A bunch, though I don't have a list, but I do not recall Feldene.  I
will mention this to her, thanks.

Quite!

Right, two places the word "pressure" appears!  Though the word
"hypertension" also appears on p 26.

That's it.

Thanks.

I am having an opposite reaction to Enbrel.  My blood pressure which had
started to go a bit borderling from the amoun t of pred I was using, is back
down in the 110/76 range it used to hang out in before this winter. Also the
little pvc's I have been having are totally calm.

There is no BP warning with Enbrel that I know of, but my BP did spike while on
it.

Aha!

Please do say more - did you get a spike after each injection?  Were
you able to take a pill for it and stay with Enbrel?  Were you also
using any NSAIDs?  Prednisone?

Thanks.

J.   IMO  in other words not a doctors opinion.  It depends on how high your
blood pressure goes.   I think you are just not used to using a needle on
yourself and this will go away without any further medication.

I had been on it for a couple of months, I started to retain a lot of fluid and
my blood pressure was very high at a dr's visit. Stopped the enbrel (it wasn't
working anyways) and things calmed down. I was on pred at the time, but I don't
think I was on any NSAIDS.

Hope that helps, YMMV.
