I went back to the rd doc and the urologist today, well the story is that no
matter what form of folic acid I take or strength it is going to flare up
the interstitial cystitis.
The RD doc I don't think really understands how painful this is. Anyway she
still insists that I start the methotrexate and just don't take the folic
acid. The urologist who says he uses it for some of his patients for
prostate problems says that he thinks that you should be on a supplement
because it depletes it so much from you system.
Has anyone taken MTX with out the folic acid or the one that is Levican (sP)
the pharmacist said it is still folic acid.
I have to go back to her on Monday and I am at my wits end, I guess I have
to decided something. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Becky,
I have taken MTX for years without taking Folic Acid. I did discover
that there is a small amount of folic Acid in the Centrum Silver
vitamins that I take. When I asked my RD about taking Folic Acid and
mentioned that it was in the Centrum Silver he said that was probably
sufficient. I have not always taken the vitamins so there were probably
many years I had no folic acid.

Becky,
I wish I had some advice. I don't but wanted you to know I'm thinking of
you.
Hope you find a solution.

Becky,
I hope the MTX works for you without the folic acid. I know how it is when
you can't take certain meds.
Hugs and love to you

Can you get these two doctors to talk with each other? My opinion is
that they should work this out and quit using you as some sort of go
between. Whoever you are going to on Monday, have them call the other
while you are there in the office. I played that Ping-Pong game with my
eye man and my former RD. After one 6 week period had gone by and no one
talked with each other [leaving me in limbo over my drug choice] I got
pushy. I would call one office and leave a message that x doctor wanted
to talk with Y and then call the other and repeat message varying y to
x. I did that daily until they finally decided they didn't want me
annoying them anymore. It got me my Remicade which the eye doctor was
demanding and the RD was scraping his feet on. Once the orders were in
for the Remicade -- I changed RD's. Stupid idiot. Gee, and I thought I
had that out of my system. Guess it is still there. lol

Becky, I was on methotrexate for several years and the Dr. never mentioned
taking folic acid and I never had any problems that I know of not taking it.
Now I am with a new rheumatologist and he has me taking folic acid daily.
I'm not really sure what the folic acid does. I do hope that you can call
this situation.
