I have seen this stuff in the drug stores and advertised. Does it really
work? Seems like you have to take so many ( 2 3x/day). Pills, Pills, more
Pills! However, if it helps......

Go to Cush's site
http://home.gci.net/~cushman4/oa-gcs.htm
and then on to Dr. Theo's
http://www.drtheo.com/
Also Melinda just posted info on Avosoy and there is information on Dr.
Theo's about that [ASU].

I have been taking it for about three weeks now and have managed to stay of
medications during this time (Mobic in my case). I am very tentatively
pleased. I am only on a half dose though as the brand I am using is no good
for people allergic to shellfish (as I read in the fine print later). Taking
two tablets a day therefore makes my eyes very sore and weepy so I will find
another brand that doesn't have this effect as the reduced dose stems the
pain to tolerable levels (3-4 rating?) but doesn't eliminate it. I just hope
it's not the chondroitin itself that is the problem.

In case you haven't thought of it, maybe you can go ahead and buy another
brand and take it for one pill/day and use up this one for the other
pill/day.  Or even just take 3 or 4 pills/week of the one with shellfish
stuff in it.  Just thinking out loud for an experienced allergy juggler....

It does indeed.  And there is scientific evidence to back it up.  But like
everything, it doesnt help everyone.

It depends on what brand you take. A company did a check once and not all
brands actually had what they said they had in them. I found a brand where
you took 2-3 a day and really seemed to work. After you are on it for a
month or two you can back off to 1-2 a day where  it still works for you.
It's called Cosmine DS. They advertise in Arthtitis Today Magazine. I used
to have to ask my pharmasist to order it for me but now I've seen it even in
Cosco.  Or you can get it on Drugstore.com.  It's for OA by the way.  If you
have secondary OA from RA, it works for the secondary OA also. IMO.

It seems to me I heard somewhere that Boca Jan wrote in article

Just be patient; it may take up to two months or so to really know if
you're one of the lucky ones it helps.  IIRC Cush's page has good advice
about the startup dose and maintenance doses.  I started at 1500mg,
reduced it to 500mg after I was sure it was working, and since then have
had to increase to 1000mg and finally back to 1500mg to cope with a knee
that was bad enough to keep me from running for several weeks last year.
My doctor is aware I'm taking it.

My doctor told me that for glucosamine to work properly you  at least 1000mg
per day. I don't the min for chondroitin. And thanks for your tip Nann, I
hadn't thought of mixing brands. Such a simple solution and it never
occurred to me! All these products can be so expensive and I was adverse to
just throwing the things out so have been putting up with sticky eyes for
weeks now. (I suspect I may need to reconsider my values). Anyway, your
suggestion is perfect and I can see what mix works best to get the best of
all possibilities.

BTW, just curious, but my original post to this thread is not showing on my
list. Obviouly it came throuh because Nann answered it but it's like I'm a
ghopst or something.
