Since joining this group I have been seeing posts (spam probably) about
various diets and natural herbs and vitamins for OA. Does anyone have any
REAL experience with this? I bet every spammer out there will jump in, but
it seems something might help.

Jan,
Did you see my post to you re: ASU?  I am assuming someone has turned you on to
Cush's website for G/CS info?  (http://home.gci.net/~cushman4/oa-gcs.)

There has been copious info posted about diet and inflammatory arthritis that
you can find on google should you also have an inflammatory component to your
OA diagnosis.  You might also try medscape archives for info on diet
(medscape.com).  Just from memory, I know there have been studies about the
mediterranean diet posted on medscape as well as info about the omegas.

Don Wiss has tons of info on paleodiet for inflammatory arthrits but I can't
find the link for his website

I would suggest you also read dr. theo's website  drtheo.com for info about
G/CS.

Herbs and supplements can be a huge help as antiinflammatory agents and again
as strategies to use to help cope with the meds one often takes for RA (google
milk thistle for an example).

It is failry easy to ferrat out what is spam or just someone's own particular
obsession (our bud Tom, for instance) by doing a posting search through google.

I guess I am jumping the gun then. I am still in the "laboratory" process. I
have to go back in 2 weeks to see what my blood tests show. I am just
panicing a little I guess with diagnosis. I guess I always thought as you
age joints just hurt. I am only 56, and not quite "old" in my mind, LOL, and
don't want this "thing" to take away my life as I know it. Please excuse all
my questions.

However, thanks for the leads. I did try a google and the first 10-15 things
that came up wanted to sell me something, so I didn't persue it. I guess
I'll see what my physicial recommends in 2 weeks.

Jan -- please keep asking questions. It gives a lot of us great
satisfaction in being able to answer them. And, the more you learn, the
more you can help yourself in your disease management.

She has finished all the tests & it doesn't look like the cancer has spread so
the hysterectomy should clean it out. Now we just have to wait until the
hysterectomy can be scheduled.

Good news that the cancer has not spread.  I know you will keep us posted as to
when her surgery is happening.

I just lost 30 lbs. since February.  My method was NOT to weigh myself
except at the drs. office.  I ate smaller portions and lots and lots of
fruits and veggies and lower on the carbs.  It is amazing and I am so much
happier with myself for succeeding.  Remember, stay off the scale.  It does
something to your psychi which makes it unsucessful IMO.  Good luck.

You will probably get some replies or emails from you question and I can
only give you my opinion on the question.
We can not lump all you ask about in the same basket.   Some of each is
good for certain things.   Diet can help but you may have to understand that
a lack of diet can add weight and movement problems to joints that already
have trouble.
Can diet have an effect on inflam.arth. ,,RA ,PA,AS,ect only to make it
worse.   It must be controlled first and then diet comes into play and a
person can improve how they feel and/or the stress on a persons
joints-support around the joints with diet.
