Nerve Block

Hey, Folks!

I'm a newbie.  I have pretty severe stenosis of a few upper cervical
vertebrae and a pinched nerve.  Orthopod feels it's just a matter of
time until I need corrective surgery  (AAArghh!!!).  I get numbness,
spasms, headaches, and all the rest of the grief.

Here's the problem - I'm a professional bass player.  Don't want to do
anything that might turn me into a music teacher (you know - those who
can't....LOL).  I won't have the surgery (6 to eight weeks until I can
pick up the bass), so he's recommending nerve block treatment.

Any of you experience this treatment?  Any side effects like muscle
weakness or diminished coordination?

Thanks for your help,

Rob

Hi Rob,
I have had this surgery, as did my older brother. I can't speak for him, but
I know he still doing his home repair business. As for me, I am doing very
well. I still play golf as often as I can.
As with any spinal surgery, there is a certain amount of risk associated.
The longer you wait, the greater the surgical risk becomes if the stenosis
is progressing at all. I was pretty severe by the time they found it.
Neurosurgeon was relieved I had no paralysis resulting from his efforts. So
was I. I try to be nice to myself these days, not a lot of heavy lifting and
strenuous work over long periods. I will feel it if I do.
I would only let a neurosurgeon operate on my spine, period.
Nerve block is a temporary delaying tactic that may not even work for you. I
had two of them done a couple of weeks back. Was told the purpose was to
reduce inflammation of the nerve going to my arm at the vertebrate.
My boss had a problem and they were able to dissolve some of the stenosis
without surgery, but they caught his pretty early on. I was way beyond that.
This is a pretty common surgery. It is also scary as Sh*t. Hope it all goes
well for you. Don't wait too long and see a neurosurgeon!

He Rob -- Welcome to the sandbox. Just reposting this for you just in
case. You posted with an attachment which is not so good for the
newsgroup. Also you should not post in HTML as that makes more than half
our group not able to read you post.
Don't have an answer to your post but just want everyone a chance to see
it. :)
Oh, hide your chocolate -- this group is on a diet but that doesn't mean
stealing won't be tried.

Gee, I sure am glad I've been away from the group and missed the info
on the diet.  I wouldn't have survived this past month without my
chocolate. ;-)  However, I've been running so much since Duane got out
of the hospital that I haven't had time to each much of it.  I lost 10
pounds this month. I'm almost back down to my pre-accident weight.
Now, if I could just stay away from the flan. :-)
