This diet does not seem to be for the lactose intollerant does it? Anyone
know if a few black olives would be allowed on that greek salad the first
two weeks?

I don't know what South Beach allows and doesn't, but I think olives are
only about 1 gram of carbohydrate each. If you can garnish a salad with
avocado, I would think a few olives would be OK (so long as you're good
about it being just a few!)

I really like the Laughing Cow cheese also. The South Beach Diet recommends
it. I think it is pretty widely distributed.

john (my honey) can't stand eggs, so how is he going to do the south beach
breakfasts? any alternatives?

does he absolutley, postively hate eggs, or could you add enough veggies, meat,
cheese etc. to disguise them and get him to eat them? how about lunch or dinner
foods for breakfast? or cottage cheese and a tomato? A couple times a week I'll
take all my leftover fresh veggies and saute them in a little olive oil and
then sprinkle them with a little low-fat cheese. I don't care which order I eat
meals, some people only like eating breakfast foods at breakfast time tho.
After the first two weeks it's easier to find stuff to eat.

How about making a quiche? Can he deal with that? This way he can have a
slice every morning and you would only have to cook one twice a week, or buy
one from the grocery.

haven't read the book yet but can you eat apples on SoBch? Fruit and cheese
is a good snack. Also peanut butter and apples.....got to get the book out
if I'm going to get serious about this. Saw a bit about Oprah yesterday
which said she finally got her weight under control by not eating "white
foods" -- sugar, white flour, rice, etc. I did that once back in my 20's and
lost 25 lbs in one month! Course I was a waitress at the time and on my feet
all day and nite! OH those were the days. Now I'm on my butt day and nite.

freeze. (he's a much better cook than i--added bonus)

Not the first two weeks. No fruit for the first two weeks. The cheese
is okay but some limited and 2 TB of peanut butter a day. I love peanut
butter. I have been jamming a spoon in the jar once a day and taking it
back with me to my computer.

I also did it in my late 20's and it was the only time in my life when I
was close to being thin. Oprah looks amazing! The plan I followed at the
time was the OA Grey Sheet. It has only proteins, fruits, and veggies.
Fruit is once a day. There is no flour, rice, potatoes, sugar, pasta on
it. Once I find a job and have more money to spend on food, I want to
go back on it. I even have a VERY old cookbook from those years :)
