My doc wants me to go on Enbrel. What's the average length of time it takes to
get approval from the insurance company for Enbrel? And is any insurance
company "worse" than another when it comes to jumping through the hoops to get
approval?

Some insurance companies need no approval others 3 or 4 days and
others might take several weeks. Usually HMOs take the longest. It
is becoming fairly routine these days so I would guess a week to 10
days as an average, but the time varies a lot by insurance. I have
Blue Cross federal and I have no prior approval. -- MZ

IMO,,, there is no easy answer to what you want to know. If you have
tried other DMARDs, it is a little easier with most insur. cos.
It is something that is worth fighting for. I felt better the next day
after my first shot with Enbrel but most people it takes a little longer
than that.

All of that depends on your insurance company. But many ins.co. require you to
try and fail other, cheaper meds, before they will pay the big bucks for Enbrel
or other of the biologic drugs.
Hope they dont make you jump through too many hoops.
