This is the first time I am visiting and have some questions. I have
arthritis in my hands (and I think elsewhere). I seem to be allergic to
anti-inflamatories like Vioxx. My Doctor has tried several and each time my
legs swell.
Does anyone else experience this? OTC drugs don't do much and I am in pain
almost all the time.
Also, in the morning whenn I rise, I have a couple joints in my fingers that
seem to be "locked". I have to think about making them "unclench", then the
sorta pop into a flexed position. Really weird!
Anyway, I am hoping someone has some experience with these same things.
Thank you!

Hi Boca Jan,
All of the NSAIDS are prone to cause swelling and high blood pressure. You
just have to keep trying different ones until you find one that doesn't
effect you so much. I am taking Mobic now.

Thanks Debbie. We tried that one and struck out.

Please ask your family doctor for referral to see a Rheumatologist.

Well first of all, this is not an allergic reaction. This is a very common
side effect of this particular classification of drug. Non steroidal anti
inflammatories or NSAIDs.
As for the rest of your symptoms, it sounds as though you have some form of
arthritis. But just WHAT form you have, I can not say. There are over 170
different diseases that fall under the general heading of arthritis. A
Rheumatologist (RD) is best equipped to decide which one(s).
So--you need to get a referral to a Rheumatologist from your PCP. And since it
can take weeks to get in, the sooner you start process, the better.
Good luck. And let us know how it goes.

All the new ones, vioxx, bextra and celebrex cause that for me. I am
back on the one I have taken for ever which is Feldene. It doesn't
bother my tummy but it does bother other people's. Vioxx also made me
nauseated. Go figure.
Used to soak my hands in the bathroom sink so I could open them.
Are you seeing a rheumatologist?

I am looking for one that comes with recommendations. I just can't give up
on meds when I hurt so damned much!. Pray I'll find a good doctor.
