Please--Prayers for My Niece

Folks, I just found out that last night my niece and her friend were
attacked as they were walking to Ashley's car after dinner.
They are for the most part physically all right...battered, bruised,
scratched, etc.. Emotionally they are both in shock. Ashley's own
focus is the fact that their screams for help went unheeded...only
when she was able to set off the alarm on a nearby car did someone
come out to see what was going on and then called the police. The two
men got away...
Both girls are small (5'3") but strong from years of gymnastics and
aerobics...the police feel that is what saved them.
They were not in a "bad" part of town, had not flirted with anyone,
and these men were not in the restaurant...they jumped out of the
bushes already erect and beat the hell out of them while trying to
rape them...

Please--would you keep them in your prayers, thoughts, anything that
will help them begin to heal?

Prayers and concern for both of them!
Reaction will set in later; and then set in again.
May their recoveries be well.

Norman, thanks for reposting.  I had not seen this.
Donnah, how terrible for the girls--the attack and then that no one paid
attention to their screams.  I'm glad they were hurt no worse, but the
emotional side of it is going to be so hard on them.  Will certainly pry
for them.

Donnah, how horrible. One reads about these things or sees it on TV but it has
so much more impact when it happens to someone you know. Although I do not know
you, I see you on this list and feel somehow that I do. The girls will need help
to get through this, hopefully they will have a knowledgeable person to do this.

thank you and they were met by a rape counselor at the hospital...
one thing I can't figure out is that they scraped the skin, etc. from
under their fingernails...they both did their own share of scratching
so had blood and skin debris under their nails.
My sister said this morning that they were up most of the night with
Ashley until she agreed to take the sedative given to her at the
ER....

See my previous reply, but I'll add that blood type, race, and other
characteristics that can narrow the search can also be attained from
these samples.

I hope she will continue to see the counselor.  It is essential.

They will continue to be in my prayers.

Make sure they keep going as needed. A friend of mine was raped and left for
dead by a man that had raped and killed several area girls, including another
friend. The guy turned out to be someone we all knew and I wouldn't have
hesitated at the time to get in a car with him. Anyways, he was convicted and
is on death row beacuse of her testimony. She managed to put it all behind her
is now a mommy and orthopedic surgeon. So your neice can recover and move on
with the right help.

KJ, thank you for sharing that with me.
Ashley seems to be more focused right now on why their screams were
ignored but a car alarm brought help...but that may be her way of
channeling her anger and the tons of things she is feeling right now.
and the rest of the family is wondering the same thing.

How terrible for these young girls...It is such a horrible feeling for all
of you. My daughter was a taxi driver. She was robbed a few times, but about
two months ago, she was beat pretty badly and knocked out. The thieves then
took alot of parts from her car and all the money she had.
So I know what a sick feeling you have in the pit of your stomach...
My prayers to you all.

Hi Donnah,

I missed the original post, but just saw this one.

I am so sorry to hear this! And no, they didn't do anything wrong, and I
hope people tell them that. So often, people think that the victims must
have done something to provoke the attack, and that is totally
unfounded. Those guys were obviously waiting for someone to walk by. I
am sorry that they got away, but perhaps the police will be able to find
them.

I will pray for your niece and her friend and I do hope they will
consider speaking to a counselor. I will also pray that the police find
those men before they attack again.

Hugs,
Carole

Hi Donnah,

Yea, something strange has been going on with posts the past few days.
I'm experiencing the same thing you are.

I had another interview yesterday.  In the middle of it, we had this
horrendous storm with lightning, thunder, insane winds, and heavy rain!
It was rather distracting, but the interview went well. I was there for
a little over an hour and a half. They will make a decision by May 15th.
So now it's the sit and wait thing again :)  I still haven't heard from
the other job. I do hope they send out a letter even if it's a nay
because at least then you know where you stand.  I have so many people
praying that I'm sure by now God must be getting tired of it all and
will tell one of these schools to give me a job just to shut everyone up
:)  (I firmly believe that God has a wonderful sense of humor :)

On another note, I found a wonderful church out here. I started going
there a couple of weeks ago, and it's alive and they have a contemporary
choir that's amazing. I'm thinking about joining :)

I'll keep you all posted, don't worry :)

thanks for the update, Carole...
and prayers are continuing--and, we always make the same joke about
God getting tired of so many praying for the same thing that He "gives
in" <grin!>

Carole,

Wishing you the best of luck with your interview and that you get the job.

I know God does have a wonderful sense of humor.
I was saying I needed a vacation. I did not specify, I found out you have to
specify if you say you want something. I ended  up with my vacation, flat on
my back for a month. My back went out so bad. I had to have my one son crawl
in bed and hold my back, (this is with a back brace on) just so I could get
out of bed to go potty. I could not even get out of bed without someone
supporting my back. So I learned quick, if I ever want a vacation, I will
specify what kind of vacation I want and where. ;-)

I am glad you found a wonderful church. That is great.

Hugs and getting job hugs coming to you.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your back! I pulled something in my
back once and I never want to do that again. I couldn't move for almost
a week.  I do hope you are doing better now.  And next time you want a
vacation, specify: Hi God, I want a week on a tropical island, with
Chippendales to pour suntan oil on my back and bring me pina coladas in
coconut shells with a straw :)  Now THAT'S a vacation :))))))

I'll keep you posted on the job search. My friend in NY swears that I'm
going to get both jobs and then have to make a decision :-))  I should
be so lucky!

How absolutely awful! Prayers for both.

And even though they defended themselves and were ultimately 'rescued', they
should get in contact with the rape crisis people. A lot of attempted rape
victims don't, feeling that since they weren't actually raped, they either
don't need it or aren't entitled to it. But the post traumatic effects can
last for a long time, and the people at the rape crisis number have the
training that is most relevant here.

Oh This is terrible Donnah, I will be holding them  up in prayers. This is
so scary and something now that has scarred them and they will live with
fear for along time now. I feel for them so much.

Tell them my heart goes out to them. I know the feeling. I have been
molested and then later in teens years came close to a rape myself. It would
be good if they got counseling for it to help them thru the rough spots.

Sending love and hugs.

Duckie, they did give a good description to the police...and found out
that these two ROs fit the description in FOUR other attacks--two of
which were successful.
and there has been nothing on the news about any of these attacks! not
that it would have prevented it, but who knows? don't we have the
right to know so we can be better prepared/learn how to protect
ourselves...

Makes you want to call the tv and newspapers... Wish the police had
bothered to tell BIL why they had not shared this. Reminds me of my
college years when we were attacked after the movie by a gang and were
told to tell no one. In Locus Parentus [phonic spelling of latin] was
still in vogue but still...
