I did some reading about this last night cause it sounded too good to be
true. It's RX only but I plan on talking to my neuro about it tomorrow. It
does have a laundry list of side effects but for those who can tolerate it,
it's sounds like a miracle drug. It's especially helpful in Bi-polar
disorder when other drugs have failed. I have been thinking that neurontin
would help my back pain which has been a recurrent problem and put me on bed
rest the past week. But Neurontin makes me gain weight and I don't want to
go there. Plus I'm limited to what anti-depressants I can take because of a
low seizures threshold. So this could really be a good drug for me if I can
take it and it works. Gotta do something about this pain cause the only
position that doesn't hurt is flat on my back or standing. But standing and
walking will make the pain worse after a fashion. It's improved in the past
week but not enough to where I can get anything done. In fact, I've stopped
three times since I started this reply to move around cause sitting hurts so
bad. Gotta get stuff done! I'll let you know what the dr says about it
tomorrow. Seeing both neuro and physiatrist.

I will be curious to hear what your doctor has to say about it
tomorrow. Would you mind posting? I'm not seeing my doc for a few
weeks. I truly understand the pain you are in...and how hard it is to
function! I'm sorry for you. I always wish I could keep up in here
with the posts because it's such a nice group...but I'm in a few
others and have trouble keeping up with those. The joy of pain, huh?
Any way..I will wait to hear what your doctor says :-) I hope it's an
option for you! Feel free to email me any time...and good luck!
Please take care!

Well I saw my neuro today. It was actually a visit to the MS clinic where I
see the nurse fractioned first and then the neuro sticks his head in for a
few minutes if he has time. Well I got a little more of his ear today since
he was also seeing Mom. I had completely forgotten to ask Connie (NP) about
the neuron/zonagran until the dr came into the room. She had even ask me if
there was anything they could do for me and I just zoned out. Wasn't
picturing talking to her in my mind when I thought about asking about
zonegran if that makes sense.
But I finally did remember and he put me on something called LAMICTAL. It's
another anti=seizure med which has the same types of properties as neurontin
except it doesn't effect the weight. He was very curious why I was asking
about zonegran. I told him what I had heard about it and that I really liked
the weight loss properties of it. He said that since Neurontin has come out,
a lot of the newer seizure meds try to support the same claims as far as
relief of nerve pain and mood stabilizer. He feels that zonegran is too new
and that the data doesn't support that enough yet to warrant trying it when
there are other good drugs on the market we haven't tried and that have an
existing track record. He mentioned Topamax, I think, and of course
Lamictal, which is what he decide to give me.

I heard that Topamax is good for a few people. I hope I am thinking of the
right one.
How is things going with your Mom?
You are luckier than I am, you remembered when the dr came in. I usually get
home and go oh shoot I forgot to ask about such and such. It is usually
something about what they just told me or something I guess remembered and
didn't have on my list. ;-)
I do that with Jim alot too. Send him to store with list and then remember
two or three things while he is gone that wasn't on the list. ;-)
I hope this meds works great for you. You could sure use a break from it
all.

Hi Di,
Yes, the nuerontin has made me gain weight. Also, lack of exercise hasn't
helped any either and I don't know which to blame for how much gain! lol The
nuerontin has to also keep increasing in dosage to be effective. It did help
me for some time though, then I added tramadol and the two do wonders for my
pain. A bit hard on my brain though! The nuerontin kinda restricts nerve
conduction somehow.
Anyway, hope you find something to help soon. I hate that situation where
you can't sit, can't stand, can't lay down.

It's a prescribed drug, so you would have to see your doctor. It's
the same type of drug as Neurontin...only less side effects from what
I'm hearing from others. After I see my doctor in a few weeks and try
it...I will post any information in here to any interested parties :-)

I doubt I'll have any problems having it prescribed. He will try
anything to make me feel better. I'll keep you posted :-)
My appointment is May 13th.
