It has been 5 weeks and I am sick and tired of this

Squirrely - 24 Apr 2004 07:21 GMT Please bear with me if I have said any of this before. I can't remember from one minute to the next what the heck I am doing.
Two good things first. One got cortisone shot in rotator cuff and now that neck, shoulder blade and rotator cuff are behaving themselves mostly. Second thing, One of my sons just brought a house today. ;-)
Now the 5 week saga. I thought I had allergies and maybe got a sinus infection. Well 3 weeks ago went into dr. It was in my lungs. Dr said they sounded a little bit messy but not bad enough for antib. Go back one week later, he listens to my lungs and says they sound clear. Told him all my other symptoms and he ran blood work and urine work.
Calls me back like 2 days later and says you have secondary bacteria infection. Puts me on cipro.
Oops I am getting ahead of myself. He says it was a virus. I think it is that stomache/ respiratory one.
So after I go on cipro fever goes up more. Not worried because I was talking with Debbie who has the same stuff and hers was doing the same. I am on smaller dose of cipro than her though because of stomach problems. 250 mg twice daily for 10 days.
So he finally sends me the lab report. Yep infection, almost everything on lab work is either high or low. Urine work shows urniary tract infection too. So second infection. Also shows yeast, so yeast infection too. Third infection.
Well from the antibs and the yeast infection, it appears that the barothlin cyst is back too. Fourth infection
So today, went to get me a few choc chips. Go to bite down on them, and my crown breaks off with the tooth attached, well part of it. The other part that is still in mouth, is black. So more than likely another infection or abscess. See dentist in morning. So that will make five infections.
Still not feeling good at all. Still have fever. So I am tired of this all.
So run out of antibs on Sun. So it looks like will see Dentist on Sat who will send me to another one to extract the rest of tooth. Then on Mon back to drs for other infections. Then probably off to gyn for the cyst.
Did I say I am tired of being sick and tired of seeing these drs all the time.
So I am trying to get caught up on some posts and emails. So if they don't make sense, you know why.
I really do not feel good at all. ;-(
If Jim gets this job this week, I think I am out of luck with the appts I will be having to have.
I know the dentist will make more appts because my teeth are really bad.
How do you get the drs to realize you want fixed but can't afford all these darn appts. ;-)
Ok end of my whining, now I am going to see what else I can get into. ;-)

Harvey R. Stone - 24 Apr 2004 12:21 GMT Hi Jo, Girl oh girl,,,,, If I had all that I think I would sleep on my PCPs front porch. Kick that SOB in the rear and demand help. Get Di over there,,, she will straighten that guy out. All kidding aside,,, wink wink,,, Please make sure your RD knows what your family doctor is doing or not doing. My RD helps me with what ever my Pcp is doing or not and sometimes they get together on what to do. I think the Lord knows who Sq.Jo is and what is going on but I am going to remind him/her anyway that a little help would not hurt anything. Harv

I don't have an RD she didn't think I needed to be seen anymore. So no help there. But I am really giving it some serious thought to get another gp. I need help here and am not getting it from him lately.
Thanks Debbie, will keep you posted.

People with AIDS in Africa are not paying western prices.

I think your mixing apples and oranges...
"Pretty nice of those drug manufacturers to give up potential profit by not charging western prices, huh?"
Not so fast. I think what Brazil and now India did in making their own AIDS drugs, played a hand in those drug manufacturers not charging western prices... I believe if China does the same, western drug manufactures may be pushed off the world market for AIDS drugs.

Don't waste your time or your breath arguing with specialsearcher.
Specialsearcher is our doom and gloom troll who pops in from time to time to spout her disbeliefs of the entire medical establishment, the drug companies, those who lend support to others, those who pray for others, those who wish others well, those who are proactive, etc. She believes she is the only one in the entire universe that does any good in the fight against diseases.
Doesn't matter what you say or do, she is only here to spread her doom and gloom of the world.
Everything that is wrong in the world is everyone elses fault but her own. She thinks she is the only one that is perfect and who does what is right. Doesn't matter that her arguments often make no sense. She also very rarely reads the original posts of a thread to really get a feel for what is going on---her MO is to jump in in the middle of a thread and start people bashing and then she starts on the medical establishments and pretty soon what is wrong in this world and how she is the only one who thinks she does anything.
In other words, Kyoshi, specialsearcher is just your average troll who likes to pop in and stir up a bit of trouble before dancing off to cause trouble in some other group!!!
Save your breath!

I kind of enjoy debating specialresearcher. It's sort of like a puzzle that keeps changing with each new piece put in place until the picture is finally complete. She makes a claim, I refute her claim, she alters her claim, and so on until she goes full circle and accidentally refutes her own claim. For instance, she just refuted her claim about people with AIDS in Africa dying due to inability to pay western prices for medicine by presenting other sources of the same medicine that are available and cheaper. It's a game and apparently specialresearcher enjoys it as much as me or she wouldn't continue playing. However, if it is irritating to too many people I will gladly withdraw from this round of debate. Life is fun if we make it fun. Take care.

Donna, Thank you also. I did tell new dr today that I could not afford all these appts. She understood. We do have insurance, it is the copays and the meds that I am having a hard time shelling out for. I don't want to use all our money on meds and drs. That is one thing that ticked me off at other dr. I got my atrovent in three packs which I paid the same price as just getting one pack. Last two times the dr ordered on one at a time. I told him about it the first time and he said he would fix it, went to the get the second one and he didn't. At least my allergist is willing to help so I think I will have him order my inhalators for me from now on. How are you doing? Haven't seen an update lately.

So glad to hear the news at the dentist wasn't too bad. At least you have one person in your health care picture who really cares. It sounds like you need to be on some IV antibiotics to kill off those infections for good without doing in your stomach.
You have more than enough reason to be sick and tired of all this. I hope you catch a break soon. You and Jim are in my prayers.

Squirrely - 27 Apr 2004 08:17 GMT Nann,
I have been scared of them doing that with IV antibs not that anyone thought to do it. But when you said about the antibs getting to the infection without killing my stomach that sounds good.
The only two antibs I can take are Cipro and Avelox. They both do a number on my stomach. I have to take promethezine to counter act the nausea throwing up from them.
I think I am just plain tired right now. I don't seem to have the fight left in me. But thank the lord, the prayers have been helping me or I wouldn't have been able to make that step to change drs.
I don't really want to die, but I was getting at the point of saying to myself, oh heck what is this worth living for, so let them kill me.
but you can see I got that out of my system and am kicking butt once again even though I really don't have the energy to do it.
See how your prayers have helped me. I can't thank you all enough.

There are many foundations/associations/organizations available to join and support that do make a big difference in our lives. AARP is a perfect example of a group that is well organized politically to lobby Congress and also has the media's respect and attention. There are many similar groups that you could join if that is your desire.

Squirrely - 28 Apr 2004 07:15 GMT Thanks Nann. I am hoping I am not wrong about her. But then I guess you can't have everything in one dr. So far I have not heard back from her. I know she does send out lab work results. I can't remember now last time I was dealing with her whether she called me or not. I think she did but I could be wrong.
For those that were wanting to know, Jim did not get the job. So he is all down and depressed again.
Will let you all know once I do hear from the dr and the cardioligist.

>How do you get the drs to realize you >want fixed but can't afford all these darn >appts. ;-) SJ,
You swallow your pride and just come right out and tell them!!!
Most doctors when they realize you don't have insurance or have difficulty affording the treatments they want, will work with you to keep the costs down to a minimun while still getting you the treatments you need. Ask for samples of meds to help with costs, ask them to lower the prices they charge for their visits, etc. This is all hard to do, but usually will work and you will feel a whole lot of relief once you have made the doctors know what a tough position you are in.
Surely hope you can get on top of all of this real soon and get to feeling better!

Squirrely - 25 Apr 2004 05:36 GMT Thanks Ducky and Mary,
Mary, yes we have cobra for 18 months since Jan of this year. So we have been lucky there.
I will try not to get any more infections, I think I have enough. I sure do hope this all goes away soon. I am so tired of it.
It is kind of scary to me also because back in 1973, my mom died from the Hong Kong Flu. So when I am this sick, I kind of get so paranoid. Actually I am jumping out of my skin to be honest with you.
The last few days Kaiser and I have become best friends. Something new each day to discuss with them. ;-)

When I get anything that drops into my chest I keep reminding whoever will listen that I am on drugs which shut down my immune system. Jumping out of your skin is a good description. Those that went before us have made us more aware of the problem. [Didn't Lady Andy? (that right) get really sick and not make it through the illness?] Better be safe than sorry. We lost Kermit the Frog's [Jim Hensen?] to simple case of pneumonia he let go too long as well. Germs these days have the upper hand. Get better lady. Duckie

Infections are the scariest for me, though I haven't suffered from any that have been difficult to treat. And, that dentist thang. Crap, that sucks. Just know that my heart goes out to you, and accept my cyber hugs. They're all I got, right now.

My weekly mantras: OSIM (Oh sh.t, it's monday) TGIF (Thank God, it's friday)
delcorso - 27 Apr 2004 23:05 GMT ((((((((((Squirrely))))))))) I'm so sorry to hear it's been raining so hard for you. (that's what I call it when a bunch of crappy stuff happens at one time.) I was off work for 3 weeks in March because of an upper respiratory infection that ended up in my lungs. Man, I was sick...had trouble breathing, felt like a truck had hit me, etc....I've never had that much trouble getting something to clear up. I finally called my GP back the third week and told the nurse that if I didn't start feeling better, he was going to have to prescribe an anti-depressant! It's so hard to keep your spirits up when you feel so lousy and you've been down with it for a while.
Just wanted to tell you that I'm thinking of you and hoping you feel better soon! Hang in there! Carol
Squirrely - 28 Apr 2004 08:17 GMT oh Man Carol, I feel for you having gone thru this respiratory stuff too. So you really do know how I feel. This is something I would not even wish on my enemies. ;-)
Thank you for thinking of me.
I hope you are not overdoing it. I have it I think in my whole body now. It is getting interesting with my ear pain, then the swelling of the ear etc. I have been told though that that part of it is allergies though. So I might have to live with that one. Sinuses are really bad too. I wish we would get some good rain and it would clear these pollens out of the air for good.
Take care and try to stay healthy. Like we could if we tryed. ;-)

Squirrely - 28 Apr 2004 08:22 GMT Sue, thank you.
I think I saw a message from you asking for prayers. I have it printed out and will read it in a few when I am off the puter, but wanted to say that prayers were coming your way also.
