Hi, not sure that is the correct spelling.
Has anyone ever had it and if so, how long did it take to get over it?
In case you are not familiar with it, it is an infection in the colon
caused by using antibiotics.

I personally have not had it, but have known several people who have and
it can be quite difficult to eradicate! Miserable thing to have!!!
You might want to try some probiotics with what ever the doctor has rx'd
for the situation.

My friend had it and was in the hospital for 9 days. Very nasty stuff to
say the least.
Another friend had it and was sick for over 4 weeks with it. Ended up
having to go on different types of medication to conteract the antibiotics
that started the whole mess. She was in the toliet almost all the time
and very ill, weak and could not eat let alone drink much. finally after
3 stool specimens of negative she was free of it but it took well over a
month....

Janers,
You are so right, this is one nasty thing to get!
Like your friends, everyone that I have ever known that has had C. Diff,
has had one heck of a time clearing it and it usually takes any where
from a month to 3-4 months to clear and until it clears, you just about
live in the bathroom nonstop. Very difficult to eradicate.
Probiotics can be of some help though!

Hi Polly,
I've treated this many times. It is actually what Logan had when he
was three. He was very very ill. That said, Vancomycin and
metronidazole are the most common treatments. They work about 20% of
the time. Many allopathic physicians will recommend massive doses of
probiotics. However you probably would want to go with the more
"designer" probiotics like Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus
bulgaricus, and S thermophilus . There are some good articles and a
few randomized studied that support that but I'm out the door and
don't have time to do the research. I'll email you sites when I get
back. RIght off the bat, I think Medscape did a good synopsis of one
study probably in the summer of 2007 (remember reading it right after
we got the new and now gone bed and breakfast so look for June or July
2007.
Just some thoughts for now-I'll reply further this evening or
tomorrow.
