This just came out on my breaking news email:

http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=10811243&Call=Email&Format=HTML

A lot of the fraud was the prescribing of "arthritis kits" which patients
never got or didn't need.  There is always some one to spoil it for the rest
of us.  Now Medicare is out that money.  "Dirty Words"!

What on earth is an "arthritis kit"?  The only thing I can think of is
something the doctor may have on hand in the office like a pred pack.
Anything prescribed and ordered through a pharmacy would be received by
the patient.

Ann,

I'm guessing it is the packs that are given out to patients when they
start some meds, like enbrel.  I know when I started enbrel, I was given
a pack by my RD's office that had info on enbrel, a pen, a bottle cap
opener, etc. and then there was a form you could fill out and mail in to
get some free goodies as well.

With the IgG infusions I do for my immune deficiency, they also gave me
a box that has a pen, a journal to record my infusion dates, lot numbers
of the IgG, a column for side effects, etc.   It also had a dvd in it,
information on who to contact if you couldn't afford your meds at any
time, etc.

The article said it included wrist and knee braces.  That sort of
thing.  For those that actually received anything at all.
