I am going to start rituxan. In this province there is a  fair amount
of paper work that is needed to initiate the process, then I have to
determine where I will go for the infusions, since they cannot be done
locally. Hopefully the infusion centre will be in Kamloops (1 hour
away) as opposed to Kelowna (1.5 hours over a bad road in winter) or
Penticton (same as previous). Since I will need to be driven, I will
need to consider what is best for my driver.

The rheumy did not seem convinced that I would be ready to return to
work next Monday. We will see what the surgeon says tomorrow.

Rose, is your rheumie going to talk with your surgeon to see if they can
extend your time off for a bit longer?

Also, will your rheumie keep you on the humira until you are approved
for the rituxan since it is a long approval process?

Sure hope the rituxan is the magic bullet for you and that you can get
things better controlled.   It is nice to only have to go for those
infusions once or twice a year!   Also pray that you can find an
infusion center fairly close by!  Keep us posted!

Hope it works wonders.

BTW, am wondering how it is working for DeeTee?   Hey DeeTee, has your
rituxan kicked in for you yet?

Well, I screwed up BIG TIME on the surgical follow-up appointment! My
appointment was on Friday (the 23rd) not today. I went all the way to
Kamloops only to find out that I had the wrong day. The doc was  not
even there, so they could not try to fit me in. She is squeezing me in
this Friday only because I insisted I needed to see the doc before
going back to work on Monday. This is a real problem because if there
are any changes that need to be made, it does not give me or the
school district much time. I will go in tomorrow and see my principal
and explain what happened.

Today  was not a good day for another reason. I ordered some shoes
on-line. They tried to deliver them yesterday, but I was not home. I
went to their Internet address last night and changed the delivery
date for tomorrow, but they did not get the message in time. That was
their final delivery attempt. Now the shoes will have to be picked up
in Kamloops. If they do not work for me, I am hooped. All I have been
wearing is my oink fuzzy bedroom slippers, and I don't think I can
wear them to work. I cannot  find shoes in a store, and all my old
shoes have a one inch plus lift that I no longer need. Finding shoes
for me is a challenge. I looked in Penticton yesterday, and Kamloops
today without success.

It really sounds like you aren't supposed to go back to work on
Monday!

May thing go as they should.

Oh, don't you hate it when that happens!!  it really sucks that you had to
drive so far to find out.  i gather they don't call you before with a
reminder.  It's much better when you show up too early, so you can still make
the real appt.!  (do you hear the voice of experience here? lol)

I hope it all works out smoothly.  By now, your principal should know you
well enough to trust your opinion on not being able to return to work.
Hopefully your sub will be available to stay on.  (LOL - I remember being
taught in grade school to remember the which spelling of "principle" applied
to the school setting by thinking of your pricipal as your "pal" - can't say
we students always thought that way, but it does work!)

Is there any possibility of having a shoe repair guy remove the lift from yur
old shoes?

Oh, and I have everything crossed that the rituxan approval goes smoothly for
yo and that it WORKS!

Thank-you Nann.
I am still mad at myself for making this mistake, and i will be
embarrassed when i have to explain it all again to the surgeon.

I plan to go into school later today and talk to the principal (who
these days is really a pal). It isn't her i am worried about in all of
this, but rather the board. All the paperwork has to be in place, and
leaves of absence have to be approved. If i need extra time, the
appropriate documentation needs to be in place.

The thing with the shoes is that when the shoemaker added the
addition, he doesn't just glue it to the sole of the shoe. Instead, he
removes the sole, cuts it apart, and sandwiches the addition somewhere
in between so that it looks like part of the additional shoe and not
just an add-on. He is not local either, but is in Kelowna (1.5 hrs
away or so). We have no shoemaker locally.

Whew, it is rough for there to be so little time to get everything lined up.
Hopefully it will all work out fine - you truly do not need to be going back
to work before you're ready!

Ah, i see.  It's much more complicated than the lifts I've had in the past.
That's good when you're using the shoes - only bad whan you've had joint work
that changes everything!  Hopefully you and the new shoes will meet up soon.

I mourn the loss of local shoemakers or shoe repair folks.  I know how much
things have changed, but they've saved so many favorite shoes & purses and
other things made of leather for me over the years. I'll always have a fond
spot in my heart for the profession.  I'm surprised that we have one in
Alpena (pop. ~10,000), but it IS contained in a Red Wing shoestore.  f course
these days we both  either wear Birks or snow boots, but still.......

I read the other day that because of the loss of jobs, etc, more people are
having their shoes repaired instead of buying new ones.  It's a shame they
can't just alter your old shoes, but then we don't expect improvements like
that, do we?  Good luck on getting some new shoes.
