Enbrel in vein, not sub-Q

Hi!

Has anyone ever accidentally given themselves their shot and hit a vein? The
infusion nurse said I could inject a little off to the side into the
saddlebag area. When I did it, didn't notice I was too close to a
spider/varicose vein. Got a larger bead of very dark blood after the shot
and now that whole area's varicose vein is far more visible.

So how did that affect the medication?

I will admit I have more energy and focus today than I have had in more than
a few weeks. But its also the first sunny day after a rain - so my allergies
aren't as bad. Pain level is the same as the past few days.

Also think that the experiment to reduce site reactions by taking the Enbrel
every 8 or 9 days is what may be causing the return of my symptoms. I felt
so great over the summer, but when the site reactions started and we shifted
to a longer interval - things started to move downhill.

No answers. I know sometimes when I inject my MTX I'll get a little blood
back but nothing significant.

Not at all,,,,,  I got a little more bleeding at the injection site,,,
otherwise no change or difference.

I did. It bleeds for a bit, but in the end is fine. My thinking is
that it is more of a process of going through the vein than of
injecting into the vein. It all seemed  to be fine.

I think I did a couple of times, though I'm not sure.  I can't judge by blood
as I bleed easily and always had some from Enbrel shots - used to amaze the
allergy nurses with how much I bled from those shots.  Anyway, the only
difference I noticed was a bit of a "rush" after the shot.  Nothing exciting,
but it was a different sensation from the usual.  I noticed no difference in
the shot effectiveness.  It may well be hat it was developed as a sub-Q shot
because most folks can manage that at home rather than because there's any
difference with the med when it's injected into a vein.

Thanks, Dee Tee, Harv, Rose, and Nann! Nann - I noticed that rush, too and
wondered whether I was just imagining it. Guess it was real. Was a little
concerned but it's turned out to be a non-issue. I did notice an increase in
energy the next day, as well. After weeks of fatigue which turned me into a
'sofa slug' I did laundry all day and actually got close to being caught up.

adelle, this happened to me occasionally when i used to use enbrel.
most of the time, no blood at all. then occasionally a bit of a gusher
(well. . . slight exaggeration). i attributed the "rush" to my anxiety
that i'd done something terrible to myself. who knows? but i never
seemed to have a lasting problem from it.

Said I got *close* to catching up. But I don't count the hampers in their
rooms - just the series of hampers sitting by the washer. Given I've been
busy the past three days and have done no laundry. I'm no longer even close.

oh well..........  laundry is annoying that way!  And itdoesn't help when we
have to run up and down the basement stairs to do it.  (LOL, our cat holds
out hope through much of winter that whenever I start doing laundry it means
we will be going outside to hang it on the line - a job he likes to
supervise, on his 50 ft. rope leash.  He parks himself in front of the door
to the breezeway whenever i head up the stairs with clean clothes...... very
optimistic!)

The latest thing out here is to put the laundry room on the same floor
as the bedrooms - must have been a woman who thought that one up :)

One of the things I love the most about living out in WA is that the
apartments all have washer/dryers in the apartment. I definitely do NOT
miss going to the laundromat. I love being able to throw the laundry in
and then do something else :-)

One of my cousins did that several years ago when they remodeled their house
- after learning an unplanned 3rd child was on the way.  At the time all her
friends thought she was nuts for putting the laundry on the second floor, but
she just wanted to ease things as a working mom of 3.  A couple of years
after they did it, the idea suddenly took off and she became the envy of all
her friends!

I had hookups in one apartment, but have never had a washer & dryer come as
part of the package!  now in Bay City, we had one of each for each building
with 8 apartments which worked fine - and they were just outside our door off
the interior hall and so very convenient.

For now we have the washer & dryer that come with the house that comes with
Mike's job.  One of these days I'll have a larger washer again, preferably a
front-loader!

It definitely makes sense since the majority of the laundry comes from
bedrooms :)

In my apartments in NYC, the washers and dryers were in another
building...not at all convenient. I used to drop off my laundry at the
laundromat and pick it up after work as it was a LOT easier.

I have a full size stackable and I LOVE it :)

Having the laundry on the main floor was one of the prerequisites when we
were house hunting. I love my ranch!

that is DEFINITELY on our list for the next time we are *choosing* our living
quarters.  In fact, we truly don't plan to buy into any stairs - even a
sprained ankle can become a big problem if you have stairs.  With neither of
us getting younger and with my issues, we want our home to be gentle!  Our
house in Gainesville was small, but it was a very friendly house in many
years.  Some days I miss it intensely!

Yes, if I ever won the lottery and could buy a house, it would be a
ranch. I can't see people who have apartments with stairs. I love being
on one level. I do have stairs to get to my floor, but it's quiet once I
get up here. I got so tired of people walking on my head, and the last
woman I lived under was a nightmare! I just go slowly up the stairs,
although it's gotten easier since I lost weight :)

How do you know you went into a vein?
