You are always so wonderful to all of us during the year. The first year I moved out to WA, I couldn't afford to send cards, and it was so nice to get cards from so many people. I will never forget all this group did for me that Christmas.
Rose, leave SJ on the list so we can send her cards :)))

Squirrely - 07 Oct 2008 07:30 GMT ok Carole, although I don't like it being on the list and getting when I can't give. but for You I will let Rose keep me on the list.

Good :-)) I felt funny the first year when people were sending me cards and I couldn't send any. But since then, I've learned that there is joy in giving and sharing. You give us all so much joy during the year. And I thought we always had a rule here that even if one could not send, they could receive. So we're all gonna send you cards, so there! :-)))

Squirrely - 08 Oct 2008 02:50 GMT yeah I am still working on the part of receiving. I have a hard time with that one because I have been so independant all my life it is a hard one for me to deal with. But I am still working on it. ;0) This will help me work on it more. ;-)
And I guess I have been told. Boy watch out for that Carole she can get tough if she has to.

But I am still working on it. ;0) > This will help me work on it more. ;-) I am also independent, SJ. When I first moved out here and couldn't find a job, and then when I got sick, it was VERY hard for me to say "yes, I need help". But I had to learn that I am not an island. I am not alone. People do love me, and when they asked if I needed help, I had to learn to say "yes, please". I was too weak to go food shopping or to the pharmacy to get my meds alone. I needed someone to go with me. And those people were there and were happy to help. They never made me feel like I was a burden (which is how I was feeling). I'm an Aries and we are the most independent bunch on the planet :)
> And I guess I have been told. Boy watch out for that Carole she can get > tough if she has to. Yes, she used to be a teacher in NYC, LOL :-)) Boy, did she learn how to be tough there! Try teaching sex ed to high school freshmen in NYC, LOL!!!

Donna G. - 08 Oct 2008 08:09 GMT You know, so many of us here are such independent people and get frustrated when having to rely on others! It definitely can be a hard thing to do to have to rely on others or to ask for help on any way, but it also can be a humbling experience and in many ways a blessing too!!!
One of my friends once told me to quit taking her blessings away by not letting her help out! Wow, that was an eye opener when she said that to me!!! But she is right...........it can be such a huge blessing and gift to do for others and we all find it easier to do for others then accept that help, but allowing that help can be a blessing too!
Hang in there SJ!!! You know you are loved and part of this great big wonderful family here at ASA!
. . . .
Donna . . . . 1.) ANGELS EXIST, but some times, since they don't all have wings, we call them FRIENDS......
2.) May God's richest blessings be upon you both today and throughout the year. May His blessings flow through you to touch the lives of everyone you meet.
Squirrely - 08 Oct 2008 23:04 GMT I know I think that is what I hate the most about these chronic issues is it has taken my indepence away from me. I hate having to rely on others. I know they get a blessing out of it from doing and helping out and such. But it is still hard for me to let go of that independence since I have been that way since I was about 8 yrs old. I was the care giver and the doer, now I have to be the one that excepts the help and it is hard.
yeah Denise and I talked about this kind of thing some time back and she said well now you have to let others get the blessings for doing. I finally realized that I was stealing others blessings when I didn't let them help. So I am still working on it. ;0)
I am hanging in there as much as I can. You are all loved back big time too. I hope you all know that.

But I am still working on it. ;0) > This will help me work on it more. ;-) just think of it as another way of giving, SJ. That's the way a friend helped me make great strides on balancing my fierce independence with accepting help. When you are on the receiving end of others' sctions, that means you are also GIVING them he opportunity to enjoy doing something for someone they care about, GIVING them the chance to experience the joy of helping. Of course, we gimps have to deal with people insisting on helping in ways we don't need rather than the ways we DO need, but whatcha gonna do?

I legally changed my name back in January and moved in March, so please do not send anything to the name and address on the list as it won't get to me. I think that we can always send to any of the members we used to send to. If you have an old list, you can always refer to that. I am in a bit of a quandary about adding members without their knowledge. I usually do send to Char as well as other members that we have not heard from in years. However, I need some guidance before just adding names from past lists. I do not want anyone to feel compelled that they have to send to people just because they are on the list.
I need some advice here. What do others think? Rose @}->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it.

kelly - 10 Oct 2008 03:48 GMT I agree with you Rose. If you want to send and you have an address go for it. I would not however post an address on the list without their input. I feel that is wrong and yes it might make people feel bad as they would not have seen our emails. For example also we don't know if the person is still around, moved etc. This adds costs as well.
So I figure each year people should have input in going on the list personally. It is your individual decision to include someone from another year. I can think of many to include but wouldn't personally.

If a person can't afford to send cards, we should still be able to send them cards since I know what all those cards meant to me the year I couldn't afford to send them.
For those who cannot afford to send cards, and I've been there so I know what it's like, there are plenty of places where you can send ecards from. Hallmark.com always has free ones, and there are tons of other places :)
