Well, the latest thing to try to improve the current condition is
azathioprine, which apparently was invented as an antirejection drug.
The guy at Walgreen's asked what I had had transplanted and seemed
surprised that I answered, "nothing that I know of."

I would be interested to know if anyone has had experience with this
stuff or is there anything I should know.

Azathioprene is also known as imuran. I tried it for a bit before
going on remicade a few years ago. I cannot specifically remember the
side effects that i experienced,; i just remember that i did not like
this drug. Everyone is different and it may work better for you.

I've been on Imuran for years, and it really works well for me!

I have never had any side effects at all from it, but know that some
people have gotten quite nauseous from it.

Hope it does the trick for you

Ah. That is what I missed.  I recall the rheumy saying something about
Imuran and then I got distracted as he went off and the nurse came in
with the scrips which I didn't really read until I got to the drug store
and then wasn't clear what this stuff was supposed to be. I take it that
this is the generic of that.

I have been on azathioprine for quite a while.  It did make a
difference in my symptoms, just not a big one.  I am hoping that since
I have started Rituxan that I can start removing some names from my
daily drug list.... IF the Rituxan finally kicks in.  I

Its been 5 weeks since my 2nd infusion and I have seen no improvement
yet.  I do know that is takes several months to become fully
effective.  Saw my rd yesterday, he said he thinks we are on the right
track and to come back in 2 months.

I hope the azathioprine helps you.

God bless

Angela,
It does take a long time it seems for the rituxan to kick in but once it did
it has really started working.  I think it was about the 4 month mark for me
if I am right.  I know at 5 weeks I was pretty discouraged if I recall
correctly.  Donna finally told me it took a bit for her.

Having said that I came down from 10 mg of prednisone which I have been on
for about 3 years to 5.5 mg from November to now.  It was an easy drop too.
My energy level went up and I went to zero swollen joints after the second
set of infusions.  We didn't catch the freefall after the second set of
infusions quick enough though so hopefully this last set (3rd set for me)
will let me get lower on my prednisone faster (apparently it should kick in
a little quicker this time and next time we will automatically have the next
infusion at 6 months - not 7 months as it turned out).

Hang in there!  It feels great!

I keep hoping I can take some off, too, but when I start looking at my list,
everything is for something different!   I guess that's life, though.
Axathioprine is not something I remember trying, generic or brand name.

Angie,

When I had my first rituxan infusion, my RD didn't even want to see me
or talk to me for at least 13-15 weeks as that is how long he said it
would be before the rituxan really kicked in, so give it a bit more
time, you just had it done really.
