had my mr images done yesterday morning.  that's got to be the narrowest mri
tube i've ever been in!  i don't know if it was an older model or a newer
one, but it felt like it was made  kidsize.  needless to say the hard metal,
sliding bed was a challenge because of having to be so still for so long.
during the last 7 minutes, pain just got to me, i started sweating and
getting nauseated.  then, i started worrying if shaking would start, too,
and mess up the images so that they'd have to be redone.  lucky for me it
was overwith before shaking started--didn't get to that shakey point,
actually.  whew!

the sweet mri tech and nurse got a wheelchair and called a golf-cart type
shuttle to take me to my car, without my asking them to.  (that had me
wondering/worrying if my mri showed something bad.  i asked the tech if my
mri's were that bad and he said no, the pictures turned out fine.  whew!
but i still can't figure out why they did that.  maybe i just looked
decrepit.<g>)  i was sooo grateful for that, because all the handicapped
parking spaces were taken that early in the morning.  it was a bit of a
challenge just getting to get to radiology with my cane.  i have no idea
when my doctor wants to talk to me about them, cuz she didn't suggest i make
another appointment about them.  but i can go back to radiology on tuesday
and pick up a copy of the mri report.

got my lab results today.  i thought i was just having calcium and vit d
test done.  but she did sodium, potassium, chloride, co2, anion gap, calc
osmoiality, glucose, bun, creatinine, bun/cre ration, calcium, vit d,
25-hydroxy, and parathyroid, intact.

everything was normal ranges, except for my vit. d 25-hydroxy, which
indicated insufficiency and for some reason my glucose levels were elevated,
considered high on the test results (normal is mg.dl  65-99 and mine was
100), late afternoon, i'd eaten about an hour or two before.  hope that's
not high enough to require treatment.  i don't want to have to deal with
that, too.  whine, whine, whine, whine, whine, whine.

i'm trying to be good about taking the pain pills.  boy, can i tell when i
forget.  i don't forget for long, that's for sure.  anyway, that's about it
for the owie saga update.

Kate,

So glad to hear you are getting some relief from the pain AND some sleep
as well.   Sleep deprivation can be such a difficult thing to contend
with physically and emotionally!!!   You so deserve the relief!

Glad also to hear that most of your blood work came back ok and that the
people at the medical facility treated you well and got you back out to
your car safe and sound and in one piece!!!  Good for them!!!

Praying that the results of the MRI won't be too bad and that you
continue to heal and improve!!!

Am so grateful that your pcp is really digging into things to find out
what is causing all the problems and that she treated you so much better
this time around!!!

Blessings dear one!

you are soooo kind.  thank you, hon.  i thought it was amazing and felt like
some kind of vip when the tech and nurse did that for me.  way sweet.  i'm
glad my pcp is doing that digging and didn't make me feel uncomfortable,
too--made it so much easier and more relaxed for me to see her.

Sorry that you had such a rough time of it.  Don't worry about the glucose
level.  That is supposed to be a fasting test.  You weren't fasting.  100 is
perfectly normal for having eaten two hours before.  The low Vit. D levels,
on the other hand, will need to be dealt with.  That is fairly common in us
gimpy types.  Fortunately, it is easily dealt with by taking a prescription
supplement.

Hang in there!

ohhh, thank you for that information, walt!  i really was getting a bit
nervous about the glucose level.  that's such a relief!

thankfully, my vit. d level didn't completely bottom out (still had 10 mg/mL
to go before zero level<smile>), so it'll probably/hopefully just take
another mega dose series of vit. d to get me back up there.  at least i
know/feel confident that my pcp will follow up on seeing if it worked, not
like my rd who didn't.  actually, i had been taking extra vit. d, all along
on my own, but only 700mg more than in my multi-vitamin and all the milk
i've been drinking each day.

thanks again, guy.

kate, you have my admiration for getting through that mri. i can't
handle the tube, no matter what the size. i hope the results are good.
i think walt is right about your glucose levels. mine are occasionally
high-ish if i've eaten.

try to stay on top of your pain and i'll try to stay on top of mine.
deal?

i've been in a bunch of mri machines and that was the smallest one so far.
small spaces don't really bother me.  but the physical challenge was a bit
hard.  thanks for seconding what walt said about the glucose level.
because, THAT bothered me.<smile>

ok.  deal!  thanks again, sweetie.

I always used to worry about that before I lost weight. I figured if I
ever had to go in one of those all the way, I'd get stuck and they'd
never get me out!  I prefer the open MRI's myself. My cardiologist's
office has one that is open, along with the nuclear machine that is also
open. I get claustrophobic, so I'm glad they do!

You should go to an imaging place that has an open MRI, Kate. They are a
lot better.  I also have a problem lying still for long periods of time,
but the open one isn't as bad.

Probably for insurance reasons. Take care and relax today, sounds like
you deserve a nice, restful day :)

***i've been in the open ones before and they are nice.  the machine i
didn't like was huge--bed for it was the size of a california king, open all
the way around.  but what bothered me was that the huge part of the machine
that was suspended above me almost touching my nose--i kept thinking an
earthquake would make a red smear out of me.  i'm not usually
claustrophobic, but that one was a little scary to me.

***hmmm . . . maybe that's something new, then.  i've had lots of xrays and
mr images at that same place and it never happened to me before.  well,
except when i broke my leg, but dr. mary arranged all of that (to get me
from her office and back again).

my neice cleaned out my hot tub for me friday and alex filled it for me last
night.  i made it gimp friendlier soon after i got it, to prevent falls
(because i did fall into it a couple of times), by installing a railing on
it that swings over the steps and locks and then swings over the tub and
locks, with a push of a button.  i'm so hoping i can use it, once it gets up
to temp and i get the chemical balance right.  maybe tonight, if i'm lucky.
i haven't used it since i broke my wrist (the rail side wrist for getting
into it, naturally.  getting out of it wouldn't have been a problem.).

thanks, hon.

Yea, the nuclear machine at the cardiologist's is like that. But I
figure if there was an earthquake, the whole building would fall on me
anyway :))

Hot tubs are great. We have one here at the apartment complex. I'm going
to head over to the pool later and do a few laps and then soak in the
hot tub :)))

My mom would love to have a hot tub, but she says she can't get into any of
the designs she has seen.  BTW she just got a "stand-you-up" and/or
"sit-you-down" chair and I think she has finally gotten the button straight!
LOL  She kept thinking of putting her feet "down" and "up" rather than the
other way around.

when my mom's house was being rebuilt after Florida's recent 4-hurricane
year, she was staying in a nearby furnished house that had one of these
chairs.  (the house belonged to a fairly recently deceased neighbor whose son
& DIL we've known since childhood and they were happy to rent it to her - she
had to talk them into taking a fair rate from the insurance company!)
Everyone fell in love with that chair.  Well, everyone but me - I never got
much of a chance to sit in it!  LOL  The DIL realized how nice the chair was
during all the visiting while mother was there and they gave it to her father
after Mother returned home.
