I'm trying to help my best friend find a place in NYC, no easy task
these days. She is presently staying at a place owned by a friend's
father who is in rehab, but he's getting ready to come home, so she has
to find a place to live.

She is single, presently working a temp job, which is part of the
problem. According to apartment complexes, she doesn't make enough money
to qualify, even though she knows she can afford the place since she
doesn't have a lot of other bills.

Are there any agencies that can help her?  She's single, no kids, no
pets, the perfect tenant. She's also getting desperate and I've run out
of things to suggest to her.

Thanks,
Carole

How about . . .

http://www.websterapartments.org/rates.htm

The rate for the room should be roughly $250 per week, but that
includes maid service and 2 meals per day.  It's a nice, safe place to
stay, as I understand it.  An intern I inprocessed some years ago had
spent some time there and really liked it.

Thanks, Karen. I'll pass it on to her. Her other big problem is that she
has too much stuff. Right now she's also paying for two storage
thingees. I keep trying to get her to let go of it...maybe one of these
days.

Thanks again, Karen. She called and they are taking applications to be
on the waiting list for July, so now we just have to find a place for
her to stay until then :)

Too bad they didn't let women stay there for a few days. I'm going to
NYC in October and that's a LOT cheaper than the cheapest hotel I could
find, and it sounds a lot nicer :)

Carole,
The web site says it's $75/day with a 3 day minimum for women who are in
NYC for a short stay.  Says on business, but I don't see how that
matters.

Yes, I saw that...but I won't be on business. It's family business,
actually ... as I'm meeting up with my cousins who will be over here
from England. I haven't seen them since 2000 so I'm looking forward to
it :) I wonder if you have to tell them what kind of business you are in
town for? Although the way I'll be dressing, they'll know I'm not on
business. The cheapest hotel I found was $125 a night.

Lots of times you can wear a blazer to dress up an outfit. Ballet style flats look quite nice with about anything and you can walk without killing your feet or back.

Pick navy or black and there you are!

My friend also found another place called The Brandon Residence for
Women. She was going up there after work today to inquire and will get
me an application also.  I can always say that I'm in NYC doing a photo
shoot, since I'm a camera nut anyway :-))  And I'll have my camera and
lenses with me and that way I can dress like a photographer :))

Carole :)
