> SJ, my grandson, Cliff, is doing fine now, thank you for asking. > Gwen RhondaM - 27 Apr 2008 21:04 GMT I am doing pretty ok.. MInd over matter right now. My Lupus is flaring.. I get mouth sores and they are so uncomfortable. I have the malar rash on my face but I use a steriod cream my doc gave me for that. Arthritis is sore in my feet mostly. My hubby should be getting insurance in 30 days so I am so very very happy about that. I can get some of the meds I had to stop taking because of cost. Also I can get the spinal epi that I really need..it really works on my back issues. Things are really looking up for me. My son graduates from High school May 16 and we are so excited for him. I am going to try to take him this week to enroll in the new college he choose. My other kids are doing really well. They are all going to church camp the first week of June so hubby and I will have the whole week to ourselves..wish it were this week because our anniversary is the 29th..19 years...next year it will be 20. Anyways, things have really been looking up around here for us. I just keep remembering mind over matter and my God is bigger than any problem that I have! How is everybody else.. I do think of everyone allot and wish you guys the best!

oh mouth sores are terrible aren't they. I feel for you.
Good to hear that your hubby is getting insurance that will be a help. Have you tried getting some of your meds free from some of those lists online. I get a few of mine free from the companies or at a low cost.
I am glad things are looking up for you. I hope all works out real well for you. You had such a difficult time there for awhile.
Happy Anniversary and hope you enjoy your week to yourselves.

ashiegrrrl@gmail.com - 28 Apr 2008 03:45 GMT I'm sorry to say that it is not "we" that moved. I moved. Dylan and I separated in mid-February and filed for divorce on April 18th.
My RD has put me on Lyrica and it's working well. He recently (Friday) increased my dosage and has given me a prescription to take Flexeril before bed. The combination of the two seems to be working and keeping my pain at a 5 (on a scale of 10). We'd ideally like to decrease that to a 2 or 3, and are hoping Lyrica can do that for me.
I graduate with my associates degree on May 2nd (FRIDAY!). If you are in the MI area and want to come I'd love to have you since I don't have any family here anyways. I'm still in a holding pattern with my acceptance for my bachelor's program since my school in CA held my transcript. I should be hearing something within the next 2 weeks.
That's basically my life............ if you want to know more, shoot me an e-mail. I just don't like putting it all out there on the internet for some random nutjob to come across.
sweetpickleNO@SPAMknology.net - 28 Apr 2008 18:59 GMT Ashley, so sorry to hear your news. Just hope things will go very well for you. Gwen

Diane - 28 Apr 2008 03:58 GMT jo, you're so sweet to think of everybody when you've got your own stuff going on. My sister is doing bad physically and good emotionally. She's totally given up the idea of ever driving again, and she's very dependent on her aide for just about everything. That woman is a real treasure! but she's totally involved with her community theater and even an occasional date with gentlemen friends. i'm proud of her.
thanks for asking,

Squirrely - 01 May 2008 18:07 GMT Oh Diane, it helps me to be thinking of others instead of wallowing in what I can't change.
It is good to hear that she is doing better. I know she probably hated to give up driving but with a good aide to help her out she should be ok.
I am glad that the aide is such a treasure.
I bet you are proud of her and I am proud of her too. She has been thru so much but still keeps going and doing. It is amazing.
Take care.

Thanks for asking, SJ. Iris went to her surgeon for her follow-up appointment on her knee, and he basically said she will always need to use a cane, and will never be pain-free because of what she went through. She has had carpal tunnel release on both hands with good results.
Harold eased his short term disability into retirement. He is fine, but has pain still as a result of the problems he had..
Sylvia had pneumonia and was in the hospital for two weeks. She was home for a week, and t hen had to go to hospital last night by ambulance. They (the paramedics) thought she was going to arrest. She is very short of breath, and is on oxygen full time pretty much. Last night her O2 sats must have gone very low, as she had episodes of confusion, etc. I am not sure what is causing the shortness of breath, but she did have congestive heart failure as well as the pneumonia.I have been at the hospital to visit this afternoon, and am going back soon.
Thanks again.

RoseB - 07 May 2008 14:38 GMT Sylvia was taken to Kamloops on Monday (6o miles away- a larger hospital) and is in Intensive Care. My nephew called last night, and she will be going to Vancouver to see a heart surgeon as her heart is not pumping properly. When i went to see her on Sunday, her foot from the mid-calf area was totally blue. It was a dark blue black and was just as though someone had dipped her foot in ink. She has gone into cardiac arrest a few times. but they were able to bring her out of it. She is not doing well at all.
I am upset with her doctor because he did nothing to help her. When she was first admitted another on-call doc ordered the exray of her lungs, and a different doc ordered something else. The nurses told the doc she should have an MRI and he said no. This man is into the age-reversal stuff, and is the doc i went to until the time a few years ago when i had a broken arm and he was preaching to me about the properties of DHEA and HGH to increase longevity. After that, I switched docs. My sister and brother in law really like this fellow because he goes to their church and they think of him as a friend. Had he sent her for a consultation earlier, maybe this could have been avoided.
And I had a sinus infection that started April 23rd. I could not get in to see my doc, so I just increased my doxycycline. Then on Monday I was prescribed clavulen/amoxycillin (AKA horse pills). Yesterday at mid morning i started getting severe chills that did not let up until after 3. By the time i got home I could not move my arms without a great deal of pain. This is the same as what happened before. I could not even take a drink.
This time though I got Iris to take me to ER. The doc told me to take 50 mgs of pred for the next few days, and then taper. Also he said to take 3 T-3s during the acute phase. I did not think one could take 3 at a time.
This is working. I can type and was able to dress. I am not going into work though.
My problems are minor though and relatively fixable. My sister's problems are very complex.I should not even have mentioned my problems really. Rose @}->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it.

If this were someone else you would be telling them the same. If the caregiver/cheerleader/family isn't taken care of mentally and physically it is hard for them to support the other person. Glad to hear the prednisone is working and that you are taking care to stay home at the moment. Take care of Rose, then your family - darn these infections! Please make sure you mention it to your RD next time especially because of the increased humira and the prednisone.
As for the doctor your sister has you have to wonder don't you. Just because a person goes to the same church doesn't mean they are necessarily a good doctor, plumber, etc. This one has in the past not served you well and sounds like Sylvia is now having problems too. Glad she is being taken to Vancouver - hopefully to St. Pauls maybe?? I know their heart doctors are considered very good although I also know VGH has a great reputation in that department as well. My prayers will be going out to her and to your family. How is your mom taking all this?
Will be praying for all of you Rose. Take care of yourself please!!!

RoseB - 08 May 2008 06:39 GMT Darren has started a blog to inform everyone about her progress. According to his latest report, it is sepsis. Whatever was in her lung has spread. RoseB - 09 May 2008 06:31 GMT I am off to vancouver on the redeye tonight at 3:50. I should be asleep as I will need to get up at 2:00 or 2:30 at the latest. I am too wired from prednisone, and my cousin called with very discouraging news about Sylvia. I am afraid.
Maybe this is all part of the "it will get worse before it gets better t hing". I don't know. I hope that I can talk to the docs tomorrow.
Sometimes it is just too much. In March our secretary's son committed suicide, and we were sort of rebounding from all that that entailed when we had the father murdering his children and threatening the school. The stress level was almost at a breaking point.
Now, just when things are falling into place, something has gone wrong again.
I will try to remain optimistic, but I think it is ok to be afraid as well. Maybe once I see her it will be better. Rose @}->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it.

i eard an interesting take on stress relief last week when you feel stressed to the breaking poiont, find sometiing to thank God for, however small it might be. Of course, it doesn't take care of the source of the stress, but it does help you relax at least a bit so you are better able to cope with all that is going on. YMMV from this person's of course, but it is something I intend to try. Anything that helps us deal with major stress is a step in the right direction.
Keep us posted on Sylvia, please. I'm lighting candles for her today.

I hope you can make >it thru it all. Thanks SJ, and everyone else, The doc hoped to take her off the ventilator yesterday, but she was not able to breathe on her own. They tried again today, but she still is not ready. The good news is that the hospitals in the region are now equipped to treat her or have a bed or whatever the situation is, so they may air ambulance her back on Wednesday. She then would be an hour away and it would be much easier for the family to visit.
I appreciate the prayers as the fact that she cannot manage without the ventilator is scary.
Initially we were told congestive heart failure and then something like infection around the heart. I am not sure if the heart is involved now or not. To the best of my knowledge they are calling this an infection that has gone systemic, so she is on vancomycin, and two other very strong antibiotics. Whether it is MRSA or not I do not know as the nurse told me they were not able to grow anything. This apparently happens sometimes.

Only in comparison to problems as severe as Sylvia's would yours be considered "minor"! I know the desire to downplay what you yourself are dealing with in order to help you get through it, though.
We've dealt with/are dealing with less competent doctor issues in our family also. I won't get into the details, but I know how difficult it is when you can't get a loved one to dump a doctor who lets his or her own priorities get in the way of optimal patient care. Love your sister through this and maybe down the road she and your bIL can be convinced it is possible to really like a *person* without seeing him professionally.
