Well, now that I've lost weight, and decided to try figure skating
again, I got my first athletic injury. I fell last Friday morning and
landed on my arm. It was still painful so I went to the doctor and had
xrays. I didn't break anything, but he said I have a muscular contusion.
So he gave me naproxen, but I can't take it as it makes me VERY dizzy
and lightheaded. So I'm taking ibuprofen instead and using a heating pad.
But life is still good :)

Gotta watch those landings but doesn't it feel great (not the contusion, of
course) to be in a position to get an athletic injury? ;)
Glad to hear you didn't break anything.
Take it easy, kiddo.

The pain has gone down a lot, Donna. And the doctor said that I have
good bones (at least in my arm :)))

Yea, I actually laughed when it happened. Everyone came over and asked
me if I was OK, and I said yes. And let's face it, falling is a part of
skating :)))

Me too :))

I will. The skating club invited me to a potluck dinner tonight so I'm
going to go. Haven't decided yet what I'm going to bring. Maybe I'll
just stop at the bakery on the way :))

Where else but here would most everyone understand how good it feels to
actually be able to get hurt doing something?
Glad it wasn't worse though.

How true this is Jo. When I am sore after golf, it is a "good" pain to me
and I don't mind it so much!

well, I did kick myself few times last night for doing too much yesterday -
but it was such a lovely day and the weather is turning rainy with below
seasonal temps, rather than the aboe seasonal ones of late, beginning
tomorrow. I'm all ready now for my plants from the Arbor Day Foundation to
arrive so I can put Mike to work digging holes. ;-)

Yeah we have a way of doing that Nann. We are so tempted when it is nice out
to overdo and get done what we could do before. But it is to me a satisfying
pain because at least I have something to prove why I am in this much pain,
instead of nothing to show for the pain I do have at other times.

((((((((((((Carole)))))))))))) So, dd you ever think you'd be so happy to
get an athletic injury? <bg> Maybe you should buy some of those pads the
roller bladers wear - we don't want you getting any injuries that will stall
your exercising. And since Kate & Gwen are NOT going to be breaking any more
bones, that nasty orthopedic virus is wandering around looking for a new
home. ;-)
I so envy you being able to ice skate. My hypermobile ankles simply will not
cooperate. Sometimes I wonder if I would have managed to work it out anyway
if I'd grown up in the Netherlands.

I am thinking of getting elbow pads and knee pads :))

Actually the reason most people think they cannot skate is that they've
only tried it on rental skates. Those are not the best skates. I bought
my boots and blades when I still lived in NYC. I was lucky as a woman
had just bought them and her husband was transferred to Bahrain. She
paid about $400 for them at the time (now they would be $750), and she
sold them for $170 :-)) They weren't even broken in :))) So I got a
great deal and really, really good boots and blades :)

I agree with you. Even I could ice skate with decent boots. Its honestly
much easier than roller skating.

I envy you - I've always been too scaredy cat to try ice skating. It looks
so fun. Heal up quickly.

I am going thru things to pack and such, so I found a few boxes of bubble
wrap. Do I need to send them to you. ;-)
I am so sorry you fell and have boo boo's. I wish I were there to kiss them
and make them better for you. You take care and be careful.

LOL, I actually have some bubble wrap left over from my last move. Maybe
I should line myself with it :))) I am actually thinking about elbow
pads and knee pads though :-)) Maybe I should get full hockey goalie
regalia, LOL!!!
My arm is getting better. It will just take time :)
Carole :)
