Dear Friends,
I've not been posting lately because I just couldn't sit here that
long. But I have been reading, praying, and missing you guys a lot.
I basically have two problems right now. First I have to soothe the
nerve in my L4-5. The pain goes all the way down my left leg. I've
had xrays, a bone scan (nuclear), closed MRI. Yesterday I was
referred to a pain doc who is supposed to give deep cortisone shots in
the back. Next week I begin therapy for the back. I've been in bed
for 4 weeks now, since that is the only position which keeps me out of
pain. Sitting is the worst! (there is a bulging disc)
But as soon as I get the back settled down I have to have surgery on
my right shoulder. I have a spur, cartilage damage, and a torn rotor
cuff. I've already seen the surgeon and just have to schedule the
surgery. I had an open MRI on this one. I won't ever have an open
MRI again- too long, not any less claustrophobic, and the wrong
position. This machine took me standing and rotated me forty-five
degrees to the right and left me for forty-five minutes. The next day
my back went out! (not necessarily related and I'm sure not going to
do anything about that!)
But the real stinker in all of this is that I had just started a diet
(with a nutritionist) and had lost 12 pounds in 5 weeks. I was
sleeping better, exercising daily, and just feeling better. (my nubers
are better. I am diabetic type 2) But since, I've still lost 3
pounds in 4 weeks! :)
Otherwise, things are OK!
Thanks for listening!

Keep going Vickie. You can control the diabetes. I got my A1C down to
6.2 from 11.4 by changing my lifestyle. I hope the doctor can help with
your back and get you on your feet.
Hugs,
Carole

Oh Vickie,
I hope you get something done for your back and soon. I know that is not
fun. I had to stay in bed a month because of my back at one point and I
hated it. I hope you do better and soon.

Kate, I can't schedule the shoulder surgery until I get the back to
settle down. The two surgeons are in practice together and they have
agreed to this!
Thanks!

you some relief.

Hi Vickie,
Went through the cortisone last week with P.T. and have experienced a
considerable amount of relief from the combination. it is not perfect, but
much better. I hope you have similar results. Personally, I'd worry about
getting the back straightened out first. Torn rotators can wait in my
opinion. Good luck to you with all this.
