I am going to brag a little. My oldest son has received admission to Phi
Theta Kappa Honor society. He is only a Senior in highschool and has
completed 12 credit hours of college with a 4.0 gpa. We are so proud of him
for this since he is a LD student and has overcome so many hurdles to get
where he is. He did this also with very limited modifications!

Rhonda, that is so awesome!

I just had my daughter's 504 meeting yesterday, and I understand what it
means to be proud of the limited, but necessary, modifications.

That's a lot of work, and your son should be very proud of his achievement!

That's the sort of kid, I'm proud to sort of know him and his family.

I can only imagine how proud you are.  I mean it, I'd have to imagine, we
are struggling around here for far less accomplishment.

Congratulations to him and to you.  What a great accomplishment.

Don't brag a little - brag a lot.  Congratulations mom - you and your
husband must have brought him up right.  Goodness knows he must have some
good support behind him and some major motivation and hard work on his
behalf to do this - LD hurdles aside.

Congratulations to him and you.

Rhonda, I know a little of how you feel.  I have an LD grandson; he's
dyslexic.  His mother recognized it before his teachers did and kept after
them until they recognized it and made note of it.  He graduated high school
and went to college, mostly working his way through along with student
loans.
After a year or so, he told his mom and dad he had decided to go into the
army to have his student loans paid off.  He volunteered and told nobody
about his disability.  After 4 years he was discharged and went to work for
a company doing almost the same thing he did in the army and stayed in
England - he and his wife are still there.  He still has a little trouble
reading, but he didn't let it stop him.  And we are proud of him too!

Yep.. it is what you can do not what you can't... thats what I have always
told him. I have told him he can do anything he sets his mind to.  We have
always been there for him and he has been a big factor in his success just
by being determined. I have never coddled him.. I told him to keep trying. I
told him to never give up because thats when you have failure. We have had
lots of tears, frustration, and sometimes just letting things work itself
out. I am now raising another child as well with the same disability.
Dyslexia, Processing disorder, and ADD. He is 12 and we just went through
the frustration and tears this last week. For me it was round and round with
the school. We now have it all settled and things are back on track..lets
just say my child was falling through the cracks and I wasn't about to let
that happen.:o)

Believe me when I say that some day he will let you know that he knows you
were there for him when it counted.   Really,,,, just watching it all happen
in the later years is reward enough.

Yes we are.....  I went to high school with a guy that worked like the devil
to make C's on everything and he graduated with more credits than was needed
to get his degree.  He went to collage and got his degree and now has an
accounting firm in my home town.   I was up there visiting my sister and
happened to meet him walking infront of the court house.   Stopped him and
shook his hand to talk to him about how things were and this and that.   I
told him how much I always respected how much he put into  whatever he was
doing and asked him if he was still that way.   He just smiled and said that
it was too late for him to change now and I nodded my head and smiled at
him,,,telling him that it was good to see him as he walked away.   I sat on
a bench to watch the squirrels play a little and there he went driving by in
this years model BMW,,,,4 door,,,,  Yes,,, hard work pays off I guess.
