you've come to the correct newsgroup, jan.
i just moved your post, for your sake, to a separate thread, so it will be
noticed by those who can help you (and there are several people here who
have had thr's). otherwise, it might not have been read, because most of
our group's members won't read crackpot rustyrump's threads about his
obsession with iron.
i don't have any firsthand knowledge about hip replacements for you.
however, i do want you to get the info you asked for.
i'm glad you finally got an answer regarding your pain issues. i just wish
it didn't come with a surgery requirement. still, i understand the benefits
of hip replacements are worth it.
good luck and best wishes, jan.

Hi
It's me again.
I have finally got the correct diagnosis after going from Neurosurgeons
and having CT scans of my back, MRI and finally a Bone Scan.
I was then referred to an Othopaedic Surgeon as my films showed Avascular
Necrosis of the left hip. Have been pencilled in (so to speak) for
operation in just over two weeks as my Health Fund are trying to decide
that I didn't have this as a pre-existing illness, otherwise the Surgeon
will have to put on his Public List at our local Public Hospital as an
urgent case and even then it won't be that long as if I had to wait
another year with the Health Fund. Honestly these Health Funds really
make money.
Anyway just a quick question to anyone who may be able to help. I was
trying to find a group covering hip replacement but couldn't so I thought
may be someone on your Group may have some info about hip replacement
(surgery etc etc) or may have had this op themselves.
Once again any help/info would be really appreciated.
Regards
Jan

Hi Kate
Just a quick thank you for answering me so quickly. Just out of interest
may I ask where are you from as I don't think it could be the US because
of the quick reply.
Anyway I hope I get some kind people post me that will be able to give me
an idea of what to expect having to have this operation.
Hopefully I will get it done through a Private Hospital but otherwise a
Public Hospital will be okay as I think like heaps of others would agree
that when you have been going through severe pain for weeks and the only
time I have gotten out of the house is to a Doctor's appt or for X-Rays
etc (boring)!!! it must be about 10 to 12 weeks now, have actually felt
quite proud of myself as I have always been the outgoing type.
Anyway just to say many many thanks to you and wish me luck.
Regards

Hi Jan,
This is a group dedicated to discussion and information about hip problems:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/totallyhip/
These are some notes I made about my own hip replacement.
http://www.armory.com/~mom/THR1.html
They were written after I read a 'hip replacement journal' in which
Sigrid MacDonald wrote about her experience with the process. My
progress was so different from hers that I actually wrote about it
[I'm more often an observer than an active participant]
I recently celebrated the 5th anniversary of the replacement surgery
date...all is well.

The yahoo group appears to be dead - no posts since 2007 - but I
discovered this one with the same name, which has a listserv and a lot
of links:

Hi Jan,
Which health insurance company is fartsing you around, and how long ago
did you join?
What caused the osteonecrosis of your hip, and have you had an MRI of
the other hip to see if that one is headed the same way?
I had both my procedures done in a private hospital in Perth and they
were uneventful despite significant complicating factors. The surgeon
was also very good, but with the bedside manner of a dust covered rhino.
