Rhonda, what other family do you have?

Is your mother the only family member in your community?

Sometimes family dynamics that start when we are children are very hard to
change when we are adults.

I got along wonderfully with my mother once I moved out of her house.  But
even on a good visit, I swear she could put  me into the hospital in two
weeks.

I was sick a lot as a child so she was hyper concerned about my health.  In
addition to being a pretty fair hypochondriac herself.  There are just so
many times you can have someone ask you if you are OK, before you start to
wonder if you really are OK.  Even worse if you aren't OK but are choosing
not to focus on it.

Maybe you mother  has done sort of the opposite.  Decided not to see when
you need help in an effort to make you more self sufficient.  My SIL is
disabled (my word, not hers) and her whole family is like that.  Its what
she prefers, except when she really could use some help.

I wish that were true.. she wasn't around for me as a child. I was pretty
much on my own. I was raised by my father
